Default New chassis & setup

It was great to meet those of you that were at RCP on Friday & I am sure I will meet more of you at the upcoming comp.

At RCP I was able to get a taste of what works & what does not, mine did not as it had way too much articulation. So upon getting home I started a new design which I have together along with the VF dig.

This new design works much better but like me is a bit strange.

Here are some pics, but keep in mind it is still all in prototype form at the moment until I get the kinks worked out. Then I will do a final version.

The Hitec HS 645MG will replace the Axial servo for the dig & I need to order a better servo for the steering, suggestions welcome!

Thanks, yes I do & the chassis is what I came up with this weekend because I wanted to try a 60/40 setup & didn't want to cut down the MIP shaft on the rear which I would have to do with the addition of the VF dig.

The rovers are the best tire I have run so far.

I really like the way that chassis looks, man I wish I had access and knowledge to machine stuff. Have you run the panthers, I have heard people saying they like these rovers better. thanks

Ok I ordered the 7955 just because I could get it for the same price as the 5955 & it has more programmable features than the 5955 like failsafe when I get into that, it also comes with an aluminum arm so that is something else I don't have to buy.

The new shocks & receiver will be here tomorrow as well but except for those few things I am done.

I managed to get everything mounted below the height of the spur gear so I think it is a low a CG as possible.

Enjoy

Thanks! I got the new shocks on today & the Novak receiver came in as well so my Lynx 3D is all setup. Except for the new servo that should be tomorrow it is done, except that I smoked my charged a few mins ago so I guess a trip to the LHS is in order for tomorrow as well.

Ok it is all setup & done! I cut/welded/machined the front MIP shaft today after killing a plastic one. Got the body mounts done & the body bent/trimmed/mounted.

I am quite happy with how it is working but the proof will be at the comp this weekend.

Now I just need a charger so I can get my batteries charged.

Ok some more updates,

1. I narrowed it by taking out the extenders
2. made new battery mounts out of kydex since the old setup would not work with it narrowed & redid the saddle packs.

3. I am trying a BTA setup which I really like so far, be nice the links are temporary but the servo mount is a final design.

4. I finally made memory foams for the rovers & they work great! it is amazing what a walmart memory foam pillow & a 2.5" tin can & a 6" tin can can be made into

5. Since the servo sits higher than the gatecrasher body would allow I decided to cut up the rtr body & it will work until I do another body.

6. After the last so cal comp I tore down the trans because it was not feeling right & found that the DNA dig output shafe was drilled a little too thin for the three screws.

PLEASE, don't run that thing, I see some serious flaws in your design. I will PM you a shipping address so you can send it to me and I will fix it for you. It may take a few years but you'll be thanking me in the long run.

OK OK, I guess you can keep it. But if you change you mind, let me know. Seriously tho, that thing is SICK! VERY cool details. Have you gotten to abuse it yet?

Thanks guys!

Up to now it has been a drill press, belt sander & hand tools but I ordered an X Y mill table & some end & ball mill bits so we will see what I come up with. I have many ideas that were not easy to do with precision or repeatability but now I will have the precision.

So far I really like the BTA setup & the 60/40 chassis but I will be ordering some proper aluminum & Delrin so as to refine what I have designed.
