| Question about front & rear caster on a custom rock-crawler with 4-wheel steering...
Ok, I am building a custom super-class crawler with four wheel steering, and was wondering about building-in caster on both ends. I know all about caster, but I am unsure if it is necessary on a purpose-built crawler, especially in the rear. Is caster needed on the front-end of a dedicated rock-crawler? I mean, does caster even help the steering of a super-slow rock-crawler? If caster does help on a crawler, would it benefit from caster in the rear as well? If caster helps, I will design in some caster adjustment on the custom axles I am building. Thanks in advance for all the help you guys can provide! |

even though 0 deg caster is what we want if you make them have caster adjustments then you can adjust your pinion angle

Yea, I think I will design in a range of caster adjustment from 20º negative to 20º positive, in 5º increments.

Not sure about the rear but up front you definately want/need some negative caster (top of the "c" leaning to the rear). And yes it come into play even at low speeds.
