just wondering if people have been making battery packs that fit in the stock holder. and if anyone is selling them.

I just priced a custom built pack with 6 CBP 1650 AA cells in block formation with a deans for $18.00. $21.85 shipped.

Right now this is the way to go.

I've been looking for other AA batteries to test on another truck, and came across this one. GP cells are usually considered the best, and they now have a GP2300 AA battery. I haven't tried them yet. I use Energizer 2500 mAh AAs with very good results.

I personally think you cannot beat GP cells. Might be a little more money but well worth it.

what voltage are the battery packs? 7.2? and is it a large male tamiya plug?

I built a pack from the GP 2300's for my 1/18 bud car and it works great. Well worth the money.

Well since the stock pack is a 6 cell pack @ 1.2v per cell, yes that would be a 7.2 V pack.

2 li-ion AA cells u can get all the way up to 3000mah and only 2 batts make 7.2v cause each cell is 3.6v I have tons of 750,850, and 2200mah but dont have a nylint crawler yet lol but i will tonight wallyworld didnt have the scorpion crawler when i went but they have one now so ima get me one of those and a jeep so one can b a test crawler cause im puttin real electronics and big servo on it and some li-ion cells on it i will tell u how the li-ion cells perform on a stock truck

I'd be careful using the Li-Ions. I run a custom 2-cell 2000mah Li-Ion pack in my Mini-T and you have to be careful about the amp draw with them. I'm using LG brand 18650-sized cells and they are only rated at 5A max. I haven't tested the crawler yet to see what the amp load is at stall, but won't even think about putting any of my Li-Ion packs in it until I do.

Granted, Li-Ions aren't nearly as dangerous as Li-Polys. But, if the cells get too hot from excessive current draw, the "protection disc" that is at the top of each cell will fail and then there's a chance of the cell going nuclear on you (well...not quite that bad, but bad enough to start a good fire.)

had anyone found a smaller pack (2-3 cells or so...) that works well with these? i want to do a tummy tuck on mine, but i need to move that battery up and out of the way to do it. if anyone knows of a setup or has tried one that works, please post up.

Yeah but li-ions are alot more safe than lipo's i ran li-ions in my mini-t also and u just unplug them when they get hot or low and my cells never run hot mabye i just get good cells???

there only like 3 bucks a pop also

Where are you getting 3.6V Li-Ion cells for $3 each?! What size are they? Like I mentioned earlier, mine are 18650 cells, which are a bit longer and bigger in diameter than AA-cells.

You have to be careful on how hot you get them. If that protection disc ruptures, then the battery is no good (it completely cuts the flow of current both into and out of the cell). Also, make darn sure to not let your voltage drop below 3V for each cell. At <3V, the battery will not accept a standard Li-Ion charge rate and will need to be tricke-charged until the voltage goes back up to or exceeds 3V.

You are correct though, Li-Ions are much safer than Lipolys. After seeing a video of a Lipoly pack erupting (literally!), I've decided against using them. I've even heard horror stories about a Lipoly-powered Mini-T getting hit and the battery pack exploding. Scary stuff!

first off, forgive my lack of knowledge in the subject... anyways, i picked up an Orion Micro RS4 battery pack today. it's 7.2 V, of course, and 1200 mAh. is this going to work? they said it would at the hobby store... also, will the stock charger be up to the task? it just says not to charge it at any more than 1000mAh, and the stock charger is 180 mAh apparently... any help would be appreciated.

arent the conectors diffrent? I thought MRS4 packs had HPI micro connectors.

changing the connectors is easy... pull the piece off the stock battery and put it on the new battery...

could you use the rc18mt packs?
