| Copycat rig
Ok it is not a copy cat rig but you will see that there are aspects of many of the fine designers. I have seen many designs that I like & decided to put all of my favorite parts into one chassis. This started because I wanted something fresh to put the R2D that I won from RC4WD into. I have everything else coming from 3 of our great vendors & should be here in the next few days. I still have body panels to figure out to make it legal & a new skid to machine out of delrin. Once the axles get here I will get it all on the chassis jig & get the links setup. I have a few strange ideas for the links but we will see where the rest of it goes. Anyway here is what I have come up with after getting the new milling table setup. Specs: weight= 168 grams length= 9.75" height= 3.8" width= 3.25" |

Very Nice! ......I love all the bends, not just flat TVPs.

I agree, those bends are slick. Do you have a brake?

IMO, you're really limiting yourself on shock mounting options...... Looks good, agreed...the bends add alot to it. |

Awesome concept. The curves really help it look like a piece of art. I am interested to see where you will mount your lower links.

Thanks a whole lot guys! I am not sure what I like better, building them or driving them. I have added an X Y table to my drill press at home which helps some but the shaft & chuck have too much play to really do precise work so most of this is still by hand. I have a brake now of sorts, since I needed to do repeatable bends for this chassis I made some custom smooth jaws for my large bench vise with one of them being hinged with a stop. I had to get some work done today but was still able to get the lower links made. Now mind you they were perfect before I decided to mill a pattern in them & I think that I over did it. But they are to the dimensions that I want so I can redo them if they bug me too much later. I just couldn't spend the $60-$70 that the Axial machined links sell for when I am able to do them. Here are the pics: |

That is not final link placement, I still need to do the skid plate & they will probably end up inside the chassis & more triangulated.

Everything looks great the only thing i would add would be a couple more holes for upper link mounting. Like a hole in front and a couple below just to have a little more tuneablilty(made that word up). |

Hehe ssshh I may not be running an upper link but I am not to that stage yet so we will see. Yes I do have the placement measured out in case I do run uppers but did not drill them yet on the off chance my other idea works.

Here it is at a 2.4" ride height & 12.4" wheelbase, it will probably sit a bit higher but like this it sits .250" higher than the spur gear of my current rig. |

No uppers eh? Ya gonna "Y" the lowers at the axle and run a track bar? Sweet machining, rig looks really good What axles, or did I miss that part?

When I started I had thought of Poulson axles but I now have some ax10 axles with all of the good stuff coming including the high steer knuckles. | |

Ok the skid was not that hard so I have it done except I may dye it darker. Now I sit & wait for the parts to show up because I don't want to tear apart my other rig to mock this one up. Damn I hate waiting! |
