Default 1st attempt at a tube chassis

Spent the day out of the cold building this tube chassis. Kind of a sandrail lookin', rock racer kinda deal.... I drew up a few patterns, even made a jig for the sides, but in the end, I just eyeball bent the majority of it.
3/16 brake line, 20ga sheetmetal, MIG welded.
Not finished, as I still need to make a few more body panels, fab up some front shock hoops, and drill attaching points for the links.

Not bad for a few hours of work.....will most likely be runnin' an Axial trans and either TLT of AX10 axles with 2.2 tires.

Nice! good job! I like the design you got going. are you going to paint or powder coat it? I used a home powder coating kit and it came out great and was super easy.

I want to do another tuber after having fun building my first one but I am still trying to come up with a design...it's good to see what other people are doing to give me some ideas.

not trying to hijack but does anyone know if there is a thread of just tube chassis rigs?

I'll prbably just paint it with an airbrush.....powdercoating would be nice, but it's thicker than I'd like....
I'd like to see a tube chassis only thread too.

looks good. I will tell you however, speaking from personal experience, a chassis with welded on panels sucks to work on. it seems as though everything is a chore, every little screw and nut becomes a major PITA.

good luck with it.

Yeah...I debated whether or not to weld em on. It'll be "interesting" getting the trans and motor installed.

I'll be building another one soon, different configuration, using lexan panels.

Looks like a very good start on your tube chassis. I've got a silly question and I don't mean to get off topic but what's in the back ground in the last picture you posted, almost looks like the firewall of an old Ford model A.

No worries......
I just ordered an Axial SCX-10....to part out towards this rig. I'll use the trans and axles on the tuber and the rest on my homebuilt 1.9 scaler frame.

Here it is all together. I bought an SCX-10 kit to use for parts.
Tekin FX-R, Novak 55T, RC4wd shocks, MIP drivelines, 3S LiPo, etc.....
Going to be doing testing to get it working good, then back apart for paint.
