New zzmt build I started a new build and thought I would try and post progress pics as I go. Here's what I'm starting with. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...d/zzbuild2.jpg Mock up for w/b. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...zzbuild1-1.jpg Tear down. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...d/zzbuild3.jpg Beginnings of chassis hack. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...d/zzbuild4.jpg I'm a little farther along than the pics show but I always run into trouble taking clear close-up pics of this tiny stuff. My camera just can't handle it. |
try using the macros option on your camera for the closeups. it's the little flower looking icon/button. it will make them come out to be very clear. |
I'll try that. Thanks. |
Em what's next? |
Lengthened the driveshaft and did a little more hacking. I'll post pics when I get a chance. |
Holy crap! Thats a Stomper! This should be Interesting, Man I used to love the things (30 years ago:-P) |
Made some progress. Mocked up lengthened and sleeved d/s. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4568.jpg Hope to shorten the w/b a RCH. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4570.jpg From the bottom. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4572.jpg |

Got most of the front end done. It would be a PITA to attach a pinion to the planetary reduction motors I had planned on using for steering. The reduction was 20:1 on the motor x whatever the stock reduction was. My 3 gear mod puts the reduction at @200:1 if I remember correctly so I'm sticking with that for now. Stock cover plate for steering assy. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4585.jpg Trimmed bottom of motor slot flush and reduced nubs where pins fit by about 1/2 top and bottom. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4586.jpg Shaved down 3 gears for steering. Remove material to thickness of gear and shave backside of gear flush as well. Basically just making as much room as possible to fit 2 extra gears w/o compromising gear mesh area. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4581.jpg Pic with stock gear for comparison. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4575.jpg Gears added ready to be installed. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4588.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4587.jpg Back together again. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ofDCP_4590.jpg |
Installed suspension lockouts and did some more trimming for better clearance as well as a smooth bottom, cause who doesn't love a smooth bottom? http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4592.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...DCP_4591-2.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...DCP_4593-1.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4594.jpg Then I attacked the turning radius. Trimmed where circled to get a little more throw http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4598.jpg To get this http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4599.jpg Which left me with this for steering throw. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4601.jpg Not good enough! So I attacked the drive cups with an angle grinder and a deburring rosebud to get this http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4604.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4606.jpg Which gave me this http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4609.jpg Better |
these things are so cool! i want one! i tried building one but something went wrong with the electrical and i havent messed with it since then but nice job keep up the awesome work "thumbsup" |
Thanks. I'll take it off your hands for parts if you've still got it. |
yea i still have it...somewhere.. i want to build one but idk what im gonna do with the electronics so i doubt ill ever get to it :( |
Watch ebay for one. You could pick up something else and swap in the electronics too. |
Hell yeah, were have you been RRB? Good to see your still building. |
Haven't done much with the tiny stuff up until now. Guess I kind of needed a break from it for a while. Got laid off so I've got some time on my hands as well which helps I guess.:-? As far as the build's going I'm trying to run a lithium ion battery out of a bluetooth but the battery may be shot. I'm going to try charging it for a while and see if it comes back. |
Ordered this today. http://www.microflight.com/Online-Ca...R200-bare-cell |
used batts There is a site called rcgroup and they have a battery section with alot of heli and plane batts on there and I know I've seen groups of those small batts on there for cheap since they are used in the small helis. Just a thought I'm a used kinda guy. Great build and can't wait to see it going. Keep it up. |
Thanks, I'll check into it. I ordered that one from Canada. It was the only place I could find with the right size and mah. |
Made some progress. Take one new se chassis. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4613.jpg Remove pcb and battery. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4614.jpg Hack off front end. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4615.jpg Remove top cover and steering motor. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4616.jpg Trim till you have this left over. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4617.jpg Voila! One stupid low reduction box. Did some preliminary body mock up as well. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4621.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4624.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...t/DCP_4623.jpg It will sit higher and farther back than the second pic shows but you get the idea."thumbsup" |
