Hilux Transmission Problem? I just finished assembling the transmission for my Tamiya Hilux, but when I try to shift through the gears, the motor doesn't spin. Is this normal? I don't think it is, but I don't want to disassemble it if I'm not certain. http://pic18.picturetrail.com/VOL900.../348525856.jpg |
you should be able to spin the motor with the out put shafts. When the transsmission is not spinning you should be able to shift through the gears but make sure there is alot of grease in there because i just finished my car and i didnt and it wouldnt shift to first gear lol that was a nightmare. |
Try moving the pinion gear closer to the motor, I had the same problemmy pinion was rubbing on the gear cover |
You recommend grease in here? The original 3-speed trucks recommend oil. It's dry right now. I've checked it out, there's a bind in the gearbox somewhere. The motor struggles to run, or maybe it was just a dead battery. Anyways, after I finished assembling it, I wound up with an extra spacer and gear. I triple checked with the manual but couldn't find the gear used anywhere. The output shafts, when rotated, spin the shifters, but not the gears. Here's a pic of the parts and the transmission cutaway. http://pic18.picturetrail.com/VOL900.../348563381.jpg |
Those parts are not used. Sounds like your "between" gears. |
Fixed it. Turns out I had a couple shifters mixed up. Thanks for all your help. |
