| Corian skidplate
As I was cleaning up my workshop I came across some samples of Corian. My budy used to be the west cost sales rep for them and had a garage full of these 4"x4"x1/2" samples. He offered that I take some and use them as coasters. They got used for this and finally ended up in my shop ( every thing hase a chance at a new life as something else ). I have used these samples to make all sorts of things; cutting boards, custom shaped sanding blocks; and this can all be done with normal wood working tools. What realy got my attention was how dence this material is and it can be polished to a mirror shine that is verry scratch resistance. I did a search and only one rig came back using this matereal and that was in 05. Was this product looked at and just not used, or was it not a suitable material for this this function? Just thought that I would ask ,as this could save me alittle of the green stuff.LOL!!! |

Good find - I'm an architect & end up with all sizes of that stuff - I've used it for many different purposes - the one thing I've not used it for is my crawler - but judging by how it holds up for everything else, my guess would be - it should make a great skid.

I've used Corian for handle material for a couple custom knives. It's machine-able with "normal" tooling and is very tough, slick and scratch resistant. Much like Delrin... |
