Default Onefstsnake's Copperhead Build

Well my copperhead chassis came in today! Woot!

Parts list:
Copperhead Chassis
AX10 axles
R2D Trans
Novak 55t w/ Rooster Crawler
RC4WD BL01's
Proline Hammer's M3
Custom Links
etc...

So I quickly fitted the R2D and 55t motor. Grabbed some old links I had and snapped a few pics.

I still need to figure out link lengths and driveshaft lengths.
I also need some upper 4 link mounts and shocks...

Im trying for a 12.5" WB but the axles look really close to the chassis at that length so i dunno.

Thanks!

Nice looking chassis. Where do the lowers attach?

well they mount to the bottom of the trans plate. Not really ideal. but there is supposed to be a skid that wraps around the chassis side link mounts. I just have to make it lol.

Im taking some measurements now to see how long my lower links need to be.
Not sure if I want a 60/40 or just a basic 50/50 split.

I had that same chassis the only problem that I had was the gap between the tranny mount and the skid plate. At times depending on the angle you could get hung up, I purchased some plastic to make a whole tranny mount and skid but I no longer have the frame. Other than that is a pretty solid frame. I have some pics of it completed if you would like to see. LMK

I picked up some taps last night. 8-32 for the links and 4mm to clean up some of the holes in the chassis.

Since I have to make a skid plate for the chassis Im thinking about making it kick up in the front and rear to somewhat close the gap between the trans plate and skid.

I also figured out a few measurements for the links.
Distance between the front lower link mount and rear lower link mount is 93mm
Distance between lower link mount on axle and axle centerline is 17mm.
Maximum wheelbase is 12.5" or 317.5mm
So the total length of both front and rear lower links will be 190mm or a little less.

oh and rckcrawler feel free to post up your pics!

Well I finished the lower links today. Went with a 60/40 setup and threw on some old tmaxx shocks. Still need to make the upper links and link mounts for the axles.

Also made some body panels. Im sure they wont hold up for more than a few roll overs though, but they look cool lol.

This was just after putting the rig together. Like I said before very solid frame work. I actually just sold it to fund another crawler. Did you ever put thought into what I said about the skid and tranny mount?

Yeah Ive been trying to think of a way to make the trans mount and skid one piece. But it would be difficult without any mill work.

I was thinking of getting a piece of delrin cutting the skid plate in half and making a break in the skid that way you can screw the skid down from the top. cut out the front and rear for you links, and drill your holes for tranny. It is hard to explain, maybe i will draw something up to give you an ideal. Keep the pics coming.

I think i get what you mean. delrin would have to be pretty thick though. maybe 1/2" or so...

I need some measurements guys!

I need the compressed and extended length of the MIP driveshafts for an AX10... Or the MIP Driveshafts for DIG.

I wanna make sure they will fit before I shell out the cash.

Thanks!!!

are you gonna be keeping those bottom link bolted to the skid like that? i hope it's just temporary.

Thats how the chassis is designed. They are mounted to the transmission plate, and there is a skid plate that wraps around the sides of the chassis and bottom. Just havent made it yet lol.

There really isnt anywhere else to mount the lower links...

Kind of a neat little chassis! I don't see why they couldn't have welded some tabs on the side for the lower links though. Seems to be plenty of room for them to fit. None the less, the skid plate should still help.

ive also considered making a trans plate with 90* tabs for the link mounts that way I wouldnt need a separate skid plate.

And the lower links would then mount like an AX10

Front end is supposed to be either 4" shocks setup droop, or shorter shocks setup sprung.

As for the skid, a solid piece of delrin with reliefs cut for the links and drive shafts works perfectly. if you have access, chamfering the bottom side of the delrin works great. Once I got the skid straight, the chassis is very well balanced in almost any situation.

I know a little about that chassis.... I designed it for RC4WD.

oh, i see. so the wrap around skid actually covers the whole bottom? wow, i've see this chassis in person but actually never paid attention to the lower link mountng positions.

Yeah Im going to go with a droop front and sprung rear.
I have a few sheets of Kydex laying around so i might try making a skid like you mentioned and countersinking it to be flush. As well as countersinking all holes on the trans plate.
