Default 4 Hr charge time sucks..... Any ideas

I have searched and everyone is talking about upgrading the batteries but no one has addressed the whole charging issue... since it is a 7.2 volt with Mah of 650, would i be able to use my peak charger on it or will that kill it? I am assuming it will be fine but i want to check before i blow something up.....

Blowing stuff up is only fun when it is fully intended.

people have been talking about using a peak charger on the stock pack at around .5A. That would be with a charger that has a setting for less than 1A. If you can charge at that rate go ahead with the stocker.

Don't charge over 1A. I have been charging a .8A @ 650mah. Lasts about 45 minutes, and charges in about 45 minutes. My batteries don't get hot when they charge either.

I peak mine at 1 amp, I set it next to the charger's cooling fan to keep the temp down. I have charge times between a half hour and 45 min.

I use my Great Planes Triton charger and charge anywhere from .5 to .8A depending on how long I want to wait.

I've been cycling the pack as well. It just peaked off about 1/2hr ago at 795 mAh in 104 minutes. This was after a .2A discharge (pack was about dead) to a .5A charge cycle.

Pack voltage as of now is 8.57V.

I'm heading outside for some crawling.

JIA, do your batteries get very warm when you charge?

Also, what is your peak detection set at?

I followed your advice about below 1A and its working great, just my batteries get barely above luke warm after a full peak charging session. I'm using the Piranah digital peak charger, and have mine set to charge @ .8A, 650 Mah, NiCd, w 6mV/ C. Should I drop the peak detection lower?

I run 5mV/C with NiCd, 3mV/C with NiMh and I don't get false peaks with the Triton.

I like to keep the peak detection low to avoid over-charging.

I charge mine at 1A with my millineum with no problems.

Hey JAI, been hearing both good and bad about the Tritons, going down to the LHS to pick up a charger tommorrow and was thinking about the Triton for the possibility of Lipos' in th future. Have you been happy with yours?

Love my Triton. The only drawbacks:
  • DC only.
  • Limited to a 3A discharge rate.

BTW, If you look at page 27 of the Triton manual it has a chart with various charge rates, battery sizes, and battery types.
