| Delrin links ~ how long is too long?
I'd like to ditch the aluminum links on my super and replace them with delrin. How long can they be before it becomes problematic? I'm thinking that a set cut from a sheet would be stronger than rod? Links are bent btw... |

If you're planning on sticking with bent links, you could use acetal tube and then run all thread down the center. I do this with all my links. I use 1/4" acetal with either 8-32 or 4mm run all the way through (whichever one I have). With yours being longer, you could bump it up to 3/8" diameter rod/tube and do the same. With the all thread down the center it will make it easy to bend them. With the 1/4" I use, I just build the whole link and then bend it...no heat or anything, just my hands. With using the 3/8", you may want to use a bit of heat on the point of the bend to keep the acetal from being too stressed and possibly breaking arund the all thread.

Cool. My lowers are somewhere between 6-7 inches long, I was a little concerned that they may snap at that lenth. For now I'm doing the BIC pen mod which seems to work pretty well. I'll look into that tubing, sounds like its what I'm looking for, thanks for the info! |

| Yup, that would be the stuff I use. The all thread doesn't slip right on through obviously. I cut my link tube to length, then I run a drill bit down the center that opens the ID up to the exact size needed to "interference fit" the all thread down the center. No air spaces to create a weak point due to the tight fit. I have yet to tweak one. Mainly the strength comes from the all thread, and the acetal just adds slicktion....look I made up another word |
