I have access to large pieces of styrofoam, typically 19'x4'x2' from back in the days of dryvit construction. So I brought one home, however not as large... only 11x4x2. I plan on making an adjustable rock crawling course, carving rocks out of foam and applying the mesh and dryvit compound to simulate real rocks. The bottom of each rock will have bolts protruding. The frame will hopefully consist of (4) 4x8 pieces of pegboard mounted to a wooden frame. Wingnuts will hold the foam rocks to the pegboard thus making it adjustable. I figure 128 square feet of surface area (4 sheets) is plenty... Here's the foam block as a start. This is a summer project so not much progress will be made this winter. I plan on having it finished for 09-10 winter.

Haha... yeah right! Looks pretty damn big to me! Looks pretty cool... can't wait to see the final product!

What are you going to use to cut it? Hot wire, Electric knife, teeth....

Awesome chunk of foam! I used Dryvit on some of my panels, works well and it's lightweight. Their blue mesh did not work though, I use burlap on the tough curves and just repair the course in other sections. Looking forward to seeing your project progess!

I haven't figured out what to use to cut it just yet. I think my best option is a cheap electric chainsaw and a cheese grader.

drywall saw (messy but what wont be. lol) or a electric turky knife, just use a short blade, or make one. then use an orbital palm sander and some 50 grit to get a cleaner shape. buy a couple dozen face masks while your at it, and get the SV handy.

Get ready for next season? You had better get that finished this winter cuz this crawling fad will be dead by next winter!!!
