im ptting a r2s on my scaler and i was wondering if i should spray the gears with wd40 so they dont rust under water?

You need to cover the gears with water proof grease. If you only use WD-40 you will burn the gears up. WD-40 stands for water displacement at the 40th trial. It works good for displacing water but won't lubricate the gears very well at all.
