Default Remove sprayon bedliner from chassis

HELP........
I bought a DMG chassis used but the previous owner sprayed it with sprayon bedliner.
Anyone have any ideas on how to remove it?
I hate seeing the aluminum chassis covered up.

I've never dealt with removing the stuff before, so I couldn't give you a definitive answer :? Maybe you could contact Line-X or Rhino Liner and ask them?

Maybe if you heated it up, you might be able to scrape/peel it off? Or maybe if you cut lengthways along the tubes, you could peel it away?

I'm not really sure, but whatever you do, don't end up damaging the chassis in the process. Keep in mind, it's aluminum - not steel. You don't want to really gouge the tubes if you cut/scrape, or put too much heat to it and end up melting it.

Try to use a razor blade to bring up a piece and try to peel it. Sand/bead blasting might work too.

Yikes. Good luck with that. Maybe try some chemical strippers. Like aircraft stripper, which is designed for all types of metal, especially aluminum. Usually hardware stores or auto stores stock this stuff.

Thanks....looks like it's going to be a pain in the ass.
Anyone think that easy off might work?> or will it damage the aluminum

Assuming it would be soaking for an extended period of time, Easy-Off might very well eat away at the chassis.

The problem/benefit of spray on liners is their durability. It is actually considered hazardous waste since it does not break down or decompose. It is designed to chemically bond with the material it is sprayed on. That said, you may get lucky by trying to chip it away with some sort or blunt impact chisel or old flathead and a hammer. Make sure to support the back side of your work so you don't distort the metal. Once you get the majority of the material off, you could try a grinding stone in a dremel to remove the last traces. Please make sure to wear eye protection and a mask as the stuff is not meant to be huffed;)

xylene is used to thin bedliner and should soften it as well

You may be able to do some kind of peeling, but a media blaster may work.

Alright....found a gel solvent with MEK init at my local Canadian Tire.
Dumped the whole can into a tray and started soaking the chassis.
about every 10 minutes I would take the chassis out and scrub at it with a stiff toothbrush and then give it a blast with the beadblaster.
What a pain in the ass.
after 2 hours of scrubbing, soaking, and blasting it turned out pretty good.
I just have to sand out the rest of the bedliner then polish the aluminum back up.
If your ever thinking of using sprayon bedliner....DONT!!!!!
I would like to hang the guy that did this to this chassis.
Here are some before and after shots.
