Default HOT-RACING MOA questions

are these axles just that soft, i have spun two short shafts in the front and one long shaft also in the front. i'm going to pull my axles completely apart tonight and check them out. this is a new build and has only 20 min.
on the rocks for a quick test session, not a bash session.

this is what i'm running

45t tekin motors
14t pinions
2000 2s lipos
panthers

i'm not throttle happy and i figured i probably wouldn't have enough power with a 2s lipo with two motors. is there better axles out there or do i do what was recommended and machine down a set of bergs. just looking for options. thanks rocky

Sounds about right for Hot Racing.

In my 2.2 Clod, I broke one of the Hot Racing CVDs within 5 minutes of driving....in my driveway.

I've spun 2 long axle shafts and broke one at the dog bone on my front axle. The HR MOA's are nice, except for the crappy axle shafts.
A vendor on here was having some CVD's made for them but got screwed over by his machinist. He's currently looking for a new machinst and hopes to have the CVD's out soon.
RC4WD is making their XVD shafts for everything but the HR axles. I asked them if they were going to make them for the HR's, but got no response...... typical

In the meantime, stock up on HR axle shafts..... that's what I did.

Don't buy anymore HR inner shafts! Take a Berg inner and cut it to similar dimensions as the HR inners. The Berg inners are a heat treated steel and will actually hold up. I've been running my cut berg inners for over a month without failure.

I've been using mine for over 6 months now - all stock except for the Berg steel lockers - have not had a single issue - I'm running 45T on 3c lipos, geared with a 12t in the rear & 13T in front.

Did you guys use o-rings on the shafts? i did that to mine after i spun a couple and they have held well for a couple of months running 8 cells nimh or even 3s on a 35t motors.

This is the best solution to it. Or keep spares in your pit box. I have gone through tons of these. The HR is a good axle design its just that some of the materials arent the best. I used berg lockers on mine also.

I have broke one inner and one outer. Just replaced both. Will the berg spool fit in the housing. I was going to get the berg spool and both shafts and cut them down. I like the width of the axles I just want to make them bulletproof.....

You can use Ax-10 outers on these as well. As far as I know.

I'm running Axial stub shafts on my HR MOA rig.... the issue is with the cheesey materials Hot Racing is using for the axle shafts....
Modding the Berg shafts is a great idea..... if you have the tools to do the mod
Here's what happened to the first one:

The second time it snapped off at the dog bone, third time was like the pic...

I should also say I'm using:
Holmes 45T Torquemaster's
2S Lipo

I'm breaking an inner a pack. I ordered some berg inners (and berg lockers)and a set of hot racing steel axles. Has anyone run the hr hardened steel inners with any luck?

cool, that may make HR axles way more usable.

My problems happened when the cross pin would slide to one side and damage the ears on the axle tube, as well as bind and snap the internal. Hopefullt this cross pin a tighter fit.

I just replaced my stock hr axles. bent one last week. then broke one yesteday. i have been running them like 2 or 3 months. replaced them with berg shafts. yesterday. i've read on here berg tubes will fit to so you dont have to cut them down. but you need to change wheels for berg off set.

hey

It is up to you if you need new wheels. I have a nearly new set of Berg Tubes that I will trade you for the HR tubes, if they are not stripped out.

HR tubes will fit Berg axles and Berg tubes fit HR axles. The slight clocking that the HRs have is due to the tubes.

Well I got the hr hardened inners today. They look like the berg ones (only shorter) but the one of the pins was either not pressed in far enough or too far or too is just too long and was binding on the C. I haven't messed with it yet.
As long as I had it apart I figured I'd put the axial outers on. Good thing! The hex pin holes were wallowed out. one pin was bent, a hex lock screw was stripped , a knuckle bearing was bad, all the bearings were spinning in the housings and the axle O rings were split. These things don't have 4 packs through them. I'm not too happy with Hot Body's cheap stuff.

That is disappointing to hear that the press fit of the cross pins is still not right.
