| Wheelyking axle output to R2D????
I know that the R2 and axial outputs are the same size and the WK is bigger. But what drive shafts should I use to connect the 2? ( WK to R2D) Any help would be great! |

| the trans outputs are 5mm and the stock WK is 6mm. You can do a couple of things. If you upgrade your axle gears to hardened than it converts the pinion output to 5mm and you are good with all sorts of driveshafts. Traxxus has some output flanges that are 5mm and 6mm but are flat on both sides so you have to modify the shafts by grinding another flat spot. Also rc4wd makes conversions that make a 5mm>6mm and 6mm>5mm.

You wouldn't happen to know the part number for those hardened diff gears would you? I googled it and going nothing. I also posted a thread in the WK section which noone ever responds there.

I just put a axial ring and pinion in my wheely king. works fine and the axial stuff is stronger.

That would be perfect. Did you have to change the bearing sizes??? And there was no mods to doing it?

I used the WK joints and FM drive shaft, drilled out the inside to .43 (I think) then used Traxxas drive shaft FM's and turned down the outside of them to slip into the WK tubes. I made stainless steel sleeves that fit over the joined parts, CA'ed it all together, and used the Traxxas M shafts and joints to go on the AX10 trans. They are holding up GREAT After all that, I didn't even think about the gear swap I was just using what I had on hand:-P |

That would work. But the axial stuff is stronger and if it fits without having to modify the diff housing I'm all for that.

Yes...the axial and wk diffs are identical and interchangable. I used nitro ring and pinions from I believe mt2 or RS4 but would have to check. Axials are most likely easier to find. Also when the new ratios come out you can have better flexability.

Thanks clark. I'm going to get some axial diff innards this weekend. That and drive shafts and she is done.

Swap over the knuckles, stubs and bearings to Axial stuff while you're at it... narrows the WK axle down almost 3/4" |

| Is there a write up on this??? I searched and didn't find anything...will the axial c's knuckles and stubs bold right up to wk axles? hmm but after you do that it's only $9 to get the better diff clearance of the axials.

That's what I was thinking. At that point why not just get the whole axles.

Nope, just the knuckles, bearings and stubs. That's it. And I bet you could find used stockers cheap in the "wanted" section here. (I did) The difference is the stock axial knuckles fit INSIDE the stock WK axle C's, I know there's a writeup somewhere I just have to find it... Gimme a minute. EDIT: Found it! It's over on Scale 4x4... http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17126 Last edited by JavelinSST390; 03-21-2009 at 10:04 PM. |
