Front axle mod
 

I came up with a way to beef up the front axle and mount 2.2's at the same time. If you can get your hands on the parts, this mod will take you 15min. The axle ends are Tamiya Hotshot 2. The wheels are rear 2.2's for Tamiya Blackfoot. The wheel adapters are Thorp for Tamiya Blackfoot. It went together perfectly in the Nylint's front axle. Steering and driving is flawless. I came up w/ this mod in an attempt to replace those cheap plastic axle ends that strip if you look at them wrong. I understand these parts are not going to be easy to get your hands on. Maybe other hobby grade axle ends would work as well. I have all this stuff laying around so I'm glad to find some use for them.

thats pretty ingenous... but y not use regular hexes and tlt stub axles and ofna 2.2 crazy offset rims...

I just used what I had kicking around. I'm sure alot of different axle ends/wheels would do the trick.

Why would those be so hard to find? I'm pretty new to the RC scene, but I would imagine that the truck those parts came off of is no longer made or something?

It looks like there is alot less worries about axle clearance with those 2.2's on there.

Dumb question...Is there a tire size that is smaller than a 2.2 but bigger than the stock Nylints?

I'm not sure about finding the parts. You could always go to a hobby shop and see what they have or try ebay.

I just ordered a set of 2.2 Proline Moabs :twisted: . I'm planning on running them without any foam, considering the weight of these things. I'm pretty sure that axle clearance won't be an issue anymore.

venom mini giant tires, or the oversized trinity tires for the losi mini T

i would think that the trannys would go before the front ujoints....? i have blown two rear planetary gears in my crawler...cut tires and big rocks dont work well with those plastic tranny gears.

The stock plastic axle stubs strip very easy. Once they start stripping, you might as well throw the rig in a trashcan without this mod(you'll see). My planetaries are completely fine after plenty of use. If you properly shim the motor and planetary, you will get much less gear slipping or none at all like me. I have 2.2's on mine and I still have not heard any rear (or front) axle stripping yet. I think this is the only 4x4 RC that has plastic axle stubs, it just doesn't work well and won't last. For me, it was the fatal week point in my rig and eventually caused my steering to tear itself limb from limb.;-)

2.2 Moabs installed and the front axle mod works great! This thing will take on anything now, no gear stripping or any other problems.

i might of missed it how did you mont the rears?

For the rears, I mounted the Nylint hub to the 2.2 wheel like oOkornOo's mod.
