| shock not extending all the way???
When I pick up my truck I notice that 2 shocks fully extend and 2 of them don't? What would cause this? It was doing this before I flipped the shocks.

yeah it looks like the shaft might be bent. Also another possibility is they may not have been bled properly. If that's the case you'd be noticing this behavior ever since you assembled the shocks, but if this just started, i'd put my money on bent.

Yup, most likely it's gonna be a bent shaft. You can also note that it may not have hung up like that the other way you had them mounted, but when you flipped them you spun the shaft just right to where it hung up at the bent spot. Try taking the upper end loose and spin the shaft a little until it moves freely. It's not best, but if you get it to where it moves you can keep runnin it until you replace the shaft. I've got three bent shafts on one of my rigs that I've just left bent because I have them turned to where they don't hang up anymore. |

It's been doin it since the truck was first built. I had a couple friends build them to speed up the build process. Looks like I should have done it myself. lol Oh well I wanted to move from 30 to 40w shock oil anyways.

One of your friends put those internal springs in only two shocks?

I'm guessin its not bent shafts just because the ones that extend farther are coming out the same amount. I would check the inside to see if there are internal spacers or internal springs where they should or shouldn't be. I could see it being a bent shaft if they were coming out different amounts or if it was just one. Since they are extending the same amount it seems like something would be limiting them in some way. I would take them apart and see whats inside. Edit nevermind I see now thats the front in both pictures I thought one was front and one was rear. |

We left the internal springs out of the shocks. Another thing, The good shocks spring back nice and smooth. The ones that don't extend all the way come to a point and stop. You have to help it the rest of the way.

one of my shock did the same thing. The hole where the piston goes in was about .12mm smaller so i shaved the hole (cant remember what size drill bit) now it works good Last edited by crazycallbo; 04-01-2009 at 06:15 PM. |
