| Shock shaft question?
Question 1: Is it possible to shorten a shock by cutting the shock shaft? Question 2: Are most shock shafts interchangeable? Or are they differant sizes? |

It's possible to cut the shock shaft of course, but then you will either have to re-thread the threaded end, or if you cut it off the other you have to re-groove the grooved end for the clips that hold the piston on. Personally I wouldn't go to that much trouble on them. As far as interchanging the shafts, you just have to look at the size specs if available. I know that stock AX10 shafts will interchange with the Losi Crawler shock shafts, but other than that you just have to look into it. |

If you want to shorten the length of your shocks, put a spacer on the shaft under the piston. To do this, you remove the end from the shaft, remove the shock cap and push the shaft out the top. You will either dump your oil if you want to change it, or hold your finger under the shock to keep it, if you want. I generally just change it. Anyway, once the shaft is out, you slip your spacer on and carefully put the shaft back in. Lots of people use nitro fuel tubing as a spacer. I have used nylon, and also aluminum spacers from the hardware store. Once you get the shaft back in, either fill and burp the shock if empty, or top it off if you kept your oil. Screw the cap on, and put the end back on........done. You now have a shorter shock. Last edited by MenashaPede; 04-06-2009 at 10:45 AM. |
