Default New MOA, lots of ideas maybe 1 will work

Well I figured I should start this thread for my new rig as parts are starting to arrive & I am getting excited, actually I have been excited ever since I started placing orders.

I am trying a few new things to me & maybe to MOA's as well & I hope that at least 1 of them will work as planned.

Here are some of the parts that have arrived as of today:

And the dig unit:

And the axles:

No really I ordered axles & this came in a small bubble mailer so it is not starting out as planned, but one way or another I will have some axles soon & then I can get it in a jig & get started on the design part of it.

Dig looks pretty big. What chassis is it going into?

The dig does look rather complex. Is that something you purchased? If so What is it?

Ask lots of questions & search constantly.

It is 83mm x 61mm so it is on the large side but to find one that has plenty of amperage so as to not to have to worry about frying it this was the trade off. & as long as I don't have glitching problems it should all fit into a nice neat little package.

The shock are also intersting. They kind of look like Tamiya shocks. What are they if I might ask?

It is a robot part.

I wanted to find a solid state switch to trigger a pair of relays but I found a solid state switch with 2 relays on board & of the 2 diff models 1 had 12 amp relays & the other had 24 amp relays. The nice thing is that it will allow front & rear dig. It works exactly like the servo & dual switch setup, just all solid state, no moving parts & can be waterproofed by simply shrink wrapping it.

The engagement points can be switched from -36% & +36% to -66% & +66%. This one will engage 1 relay at -36 or -66% & the other relay at +36 or +66%.

Always cool to see a different build from the norm.

I'm also wondering what shocks those are.

That dig switch should be interesting.

Oh it will be different for sure! I have only seen 1 unibody done so I am hoping to do a unibody, once I finally get the axles I can put my ideas & the measurements required together & see what I can come up with.

I have not owned MOA axles yet so I do not know how to work/fit/deal with them yet.

The shocks are Hot Racing air shocks:

Looks like a cool start to your project. The one thing I will say is that the usual 2 switch and servo idea works pretty good, so if you have problems with your dig system, dont be afraid to try the other way.

I thought about something like this awhile ago but i ended up dropping it since i went to dual ESC's. I hope someone works it out. It looks good but read the fine print and the Data Sheet. It can be a power hog.

Yes but you also need to look at it in it's designed use, they talk about making sure that your "receiver pack" is fully charged (we don't use small receiver packs). It pulls 220ma only when energized & 20ma in standby, a Hitec 225mg 4.8/6 draw is 300ma/340ma since it is not a digital (in real world holding a 1-2 oz load it will still pull 160ma/180/ma). A Hitec 5245mg is 180ma/200ma so it is not so much more than using a servo & switches.

This is still for a test anyway, I will see how it performs. I just wanted a solid state alternative to servos, switches, dig adjustments.

I am coming from dig transmissions & the worry of burning out servos that are not adjusted correctly. This will energize at anything over 36 or 66% depending on if the jumper is in place or not.

Depending on the radio you could use 2 of these if you really wanted freewheel & dig in both directions or both axles, my old Hitec Lynx 3D has a 5 position 3rd channel.

Just something to try & see if it offers us more options.

I already have the parts here & ready if this does not work.

It looks like I should have my axles Friday or Saturday so I can get things setup & started.

I am still playing with ideas as far as chassis, it will either be a unibody or a tuber. I want to try the unibody just because it is different but if I can not get the weight & strength where I want them then I will do a tube chassis.

The nice thing with the moa is that I no longer need a wide skid plate to hold a trans so I will take full advantage of this. I also may be switching to lipo for this rig as well so that will give me more options as far as placement of everything.

I will keep you guys posted on the progress & please keep ides & suggestions coming.

Cool let us know how that dig switch works. I wanted to go that way but couldn't see spending the 4 right now since I already have the mec. set up. I can see it mounting that switch much easier than the servo style due to having moving parts. Heck even running the lower amp. switch it should handle better than the 5 amp radioshack switches I run now.

keep it up

Yeah I may switch to the smaller lower amp 1 later if this one works out.

Could someone measure or tell me how much space is between the motor & axle tube on a Berg or HR? I don't have my axles yet but the ideas are still flowing & creating more question than answers without the axles here.
