Default when to do a tear down...........

how many batt packs do you run your rig on before you do a tear down....or do you wait till you hear something is a-miss then tear into it....or is there a regular schedule you "try" to keep to when you tear down your rig....
i have bout 20 runs on the tigress and i'm kinda itching to tear her apart to see how things are holding up "or not" ....but just thinking back to when i put her together and took her apart many, many times during the fab stage to how she sits now, well not realy looking towards doing it yet ....................bob

I never tear mine down. Dont have to I change so much crap around all the time. I usually end up tearing every thing down once every couple of months anyways because I cant leave well enough alone. I believe thats probally what most people do......Unfortunatly.LOL

Default When needed

I really never do a complete tear down. I just check my rig after every run, and that is just a quick overlook of the truck. I listen to the sounds it makes, because you can hear things change over time with the motor, transmission, and other parts on your rig when things are going down hill. That gives you a heads up. Theres no need to tear down a rig after every other run. Routine checks do just fine.

i had some clunking sounds from the front axle and was gonna take the knuckles off to see if the axial CVD pins were wearing....the set screw in the hex hub wasn't loc-tite'ed when i put them on, the noise i was hearing were the pins spinning across the slots they go into....so i didn't need to pull the knucles off, so far ...............bob

Balls to the wall driving will do that for you.

If something sounds a little off, then I'll take it apart and see whats going on. Best bet is to practice PMCS, Preventive Maintance Checks and Services. I like to crack the gear boxes now and then to clean out the old lube and repack with new. Doesnt hurt anything to have a freshly lubed diff and it satisfies my OCD.

I was told Bergs were strong. I'm wondering now. Can't keep inner shafts in it and almost toasted a complete gear set in the front axle. Mainly snapping the pins on the inners. I have snapped the balls in two a couple times.I had less breakage with my Axial...spurs mainly.

Seriously,I baby this thing. I've taken weight off the wheels and limited my steering BIG time. Any more and it'd take a 40 acre field to turn it around. I was running a 10t puller in my Axial on a 3 cell. Cheap Integy 35t's in my Berg.

I do a full tear down to clean, inspect and re-lube after the season is over or if I hear unusual noises.

Anytime a repair is made if I'm close to the tranny or axles I'll go a little farther to clean, inspect and re-lube if there's time.

Either when something breaks, or before a large event. If its free crawl format, I know I will have plenty of time to inspect it before each run.
