Default How much is too much wheel weight?

Ok - I've been wondering about this. I know every rig is different, and every wheel and tire combo is different, but how much wheel weight is too much?

I recently put on some Pro-Line 2.2 Titus wheels with full weights all around... and fawk, it's heavy! I believe each weight on each wheel is 4oz. So that is 8oz total per wheel and 16oz(1lb) for the front and the rear. The added weight has really gotten the suspension working, but how much wear and tear to the drive train is going to be done?

I'm thinking of ordering some softer springs for the SCX shocks and checking with a local tire shop for some weights to try and lighten it up some.

Anyone have a general rule of thumb or is it just add till it works?

there is a point that more weight doesnt give you any more performance gains, start light and work up untill u notice ur performance doenst change or starts to get worse,

if you wearing out / braking parts every trip out obviously to much, other then that its alot of trial and tuneing.. when i add weight i go in 1/2 oz incriments, sinec i use 1/4 oz weights

Add it till it works. I run 14oz in each front and 9 in each rear. I started with only 6 in front and 4 in rear. after many different foam combo's i ended up with the need for more weight. I have noticed a few steering points wearing out faster but keeping my throttle finger in check I have had good luck not breaking axles. Oh...i am running Berg axles with medium HB's.

i agree, crawling is all about tuning and finding out what works. i run 15 oz in each wheel up front an 10 oz in each rear. watch your drag brake, when you add alot of weight you drag brake wont always have 100% brake. that started for me at 1 lb each front wheeel and 10 oz each rear wheel. now with my current setup it dosnt happen to often.

Default I don't Know

I run 8oz in both front wheels and 5oz in each back wheel. I guess you will know there is too much weight when you hear things snap on your rig. "OOPS I Guess I Added To Much".

I'm new to this whole adding weight thing... so the 8oz for each wheel with these Titus wheels was like "REALLY?! That much? OMG!"

I'll see how it works out with these on the scalers. Might end up switching to stick on weights later on.

I run 13oz per wheel in the front and 3oz per wheel in the rear but thats on stock plastic axial wheels with Proline Chisels and it seems to work out pretty good for me.

My total wheel weight (wheel/rings/weight) without tires are: fronts 7.4 oz / rears 4.6 oz. I'm still playing with it all but working pretty good.

I usually run 6 to 8oz in the front and 3 to 4oz in the rear..Never had any issues with breakage as long as I was in that weight area..Never really tried to go much more than that in fear of breaking something though, more tried to tune the rig to work with the weight I was using.

I run about a pound in each front, and slightly more than half a pound in each rear. Works really well.

Ok, so 8oz per wheel doesn't seem like that much any more. Still have to swing by a tire shop to pick up some weights.

A touch over 3 oz added to each front and nothing added to the rear. Super stable, suspension cycles great, and climbs like a mountain goat.
