I've got a mix of expensive r/c vehicles and budget r/c vehicles, RTRs and kits, and I've had expensive full-size cars and budget full-size cars, and in my experience you get just as many problems at either end of the scale.

I don't really believe that budget has to mean bad, and I get a bit tired of people saying something cheap can never be good. It's just not true.

In the UK you can get a Maverick Scout RTR delivered to your door for £120 and it's a perfectly decent crawler. You can do things to improve it of course, you can lower the CoG, add 4ws, cut the foams, etc. etc. but the point is you don't have to - you can enjoy crawling perfectly adequately with the stock vehicle. In my opinion, based on experience, the quality and robustness of cheaper RTRs is much better now than it was ten years ago.

I have to agree with Pritch.
By mass production it should be possible to provide a solid design at low cost. How low is determined by the profit margin involved.

The British "Mini" was an instant hit at a sale price of £495. Only problem with it was that the production cost was just over £530...

So something will suffer, and it will not be transportation costs or profits.

Also, you need a blue star to do market research, or the mods are gonna get medieval on your hiney.

im with this guy^^

i woudn't even look at the box on the shelf in either RTR/Kit form!
100% garbage, your better off hitting walmart and buying a shitty 50.00 plastic car the will last 15minutes before it takes a crap on your lawn.

save money too lol
