Yes, the TQ3 with work fine with the R2 Tranny, but you will need a 3 position switch to work with the R2D tranny.

I ran that way for a while, you just have to spend some time setting it up and you only get two of the three options (usually dig and 4x4).

Not really. The throw on the R2 trannies is kinda small and there is almost no way to get the travel on the servo small enough as to prevent binding. There is an item called a servo stretcher http://www.servocity.com/html/180o_servo_stretcher.html that can be used. I think it can be used on digi servos to limit the travel but will not stretch the travel. Guys will say it can be done, and with an analog servo it might last, but put a decent servo on it and it will heat up from being in a bind.

Now, the TQ3 only has 2 positions on the 3rd channel so it can operate 2 positions on the tranny but will need to be modded to do 3 positions.

I want to say that someone is making something, maybe PunkRC, that can do what you need with the radio you have. There have been threads posted about the product in the elec. section here on the site.

doesnt the tq3 have adjustments in the back of the radio?
