Ok I'm not new to crawling and probably search these forums more then anyone. I'm looking for a more broad range of opinions for my family. I just started competing again with a home built AX10. Tempted to get a losi despite the short run times and axles issues. Now on to my question. I'm trying to save the most money as we are a family of 6 and my whole family wants to start competing fter their first comp. So I want to start them all in 2.2 class. I know used would be the cheapest for them all but I was hoping for some insight on which rig in the end would be the cheapest best quality to build 6 of them so I only have to carry spares for 1 brand of rig out there. I'm looking for just opinions on rigs not electronics as I already have that much figured out. Christmas they will all get MRC's but for now I think the main 2 would be Axial and Losi. Now the Losi is about $60 or so more new but looks like a way better rig for all of us out of the box. So what are your opinions on this as you can see over the next couple of months I will be dumping a lot of money into this and only want to do it once. Plus I am only going to buy new so they all will learn how to take apart their own rigs and reassemble them. Thanks in advance for all the opinions I know I will get. |

Ditto on getting more Axial rigs...keeps the spare parts count lower and you can have a nice variety (scaler, comp rig, go fast basher, all Axials). |

losi will be the best bang for the buck out of the box, but will cost more in electronics, but you will have digs, decent tires, and a good body, plus you get to tare everything apart. The axial, is a crawler that you will probably never stop dropping money into, so axial is more expensive long term and losi is more expensive up front.

Being frugal myself, I would still go with Axial, even though it costs a little more overall. The reason is that this way you will have spare parts that can be used on any rig. And being the Dad (just an assumption), you will be the supject matter expert on repairs of everyone else's rigs. Plus, you will be able to help the family set up their rigs based on your experience, and it could go both ways, they may teach you something about the Axial that you didn't think of. Also, the aftermarket support for the Axial line is outstanding. You can order tons of upgrades from your local hobby store, from online vendors, or even here on the forum. Plus, if your family ever competes against itself, no one can say "The only reason you beat me is because you a have an Axial, and I got this stupid Losi." (No offence to Losi owners, just an example). I would stay with what you know is a solid performer and get a few more. |

Just get a crap load of spare parts and let them go to town and build their own crawler! lol, maybe if you help them build them it would be a good experiance and cost effective

having a family of 4 i can tell you that with the variety of rigs we have it is sometimes a little spendy keeping up with different parts from different companys. i enjoy each of our rigs tlt axled, axial, losi, super, mini. but if your really looking to get them all something one brand would be my best suggestion. it would help with parts support, interchangebility and setups. dont skimp on electronics either your kids will end up being frustrated and get to a point where they just dont want to run. i know i tried not buying the 333 oz torque servos for there rigs and they couldnt make some of the same lines i could make because of the turning ability and strength. they all eventually burned out within a year which meant thay were out of running while others could that particular day.

| I'm wondering about this as well. I bought an axial kit last spring that came with all the extra goodies. Put a 35t motor, cheap esc, and decent shocks on it. I have yet to break a single thing on this crawler and it has take some huge falls, been in the water, and had the snot beaten out of it. I'd stick to an all axial fleet like the rest have mentioned. Having spares for 4 different brands of rigs is a pita. |

My answer to your question would depend on the age of your kids. If they are young ( 6 and under ) like mine, I would recomend the axial. I have the Losi and it is a great rig ( probely won't have it very long ), but you do need to be an experianced driver ( in my opinion ) to drive it with out having all the problems. It requires the dig to be used when climbing almost anything that is very steep. With out making this a long drawn out reply. Axial is the easiest to drive if they are younger. The Losi is definatly the better pick as far as money needed to spend on upgrades, if the kids are a little older. This is just my opinion. My kids and my wife have the Axial with out any fancy stuff, but I did put in good electronics. I run Supers, so our parts are not interchagable :?. |

You can usually find some great deals on used Axials in the for sale section! Probably would be a great place to look.

Wow, a half dozen crawlers at one time... I would have to say axial for the ruggedness for one. I let my 4 year old drive mine and she'll drive it straight into stuff and I have only had a rod end break on it. I would say with 6 plus yours you will want to go 2.4 for the radio.. Maybe the RC4WD one for $80? It's a 2 pos 3rd channel but that would give you locked and 4wd with a dig. I am wondering if some of the RCC vendors might give you a discount if you came to them saying I need 6 kits, 6 radio's, 6 ESC, 6 or 12 batteries, etc... That'll be a big order... Good luck with it, sounds like you will have some great family crawling outings.. |
