| Transmission disk brake?
Has anyone added a disk brake to a crawler? Looking for uses for the spare sixth channel on my Tx.

It would only work if you had a centre differential and for that reason very few people have done it.

ive always thought it'd be cool to have a tunable (ball or sealed gear) diff and a disc brake on each output. so you could brake the front or rear and still drive the other end.

I had mocked up one once on a WK trans using brake parts from a Revo. It was made a bit easier because I was already using Revo shafts...so the disk I used was from the Revo as well and was mated to the shaft just like in the Revo. The tough part was making the mount for the "caliper" to mount it up solid to the trans. I gave up after screwing with it a couple times with the feeling that it was too much work for just a brake.

Depends on where you want the brake really.... its deinitfily easier if you have a shaft feeding your trans from a center diff or a center mounted engine... then just use a setup off a gas vehicle...

A few years ago I used the Tmaxx tranny braking system on my Emaxx tranny, the Emaxx tranny was in a 1/8 scale crawler I built with Kyosho twin force axles and a tube chassis. it performed very well but I have since sold that ride and don't even have any pictures of the set up. It was a better brake then what you can normally do electroniclly, it was perfect for hanging on a side hill or creaping down off a large rock. I actually miss having that set up, I liked it alot.

I been trying to design and build a brake system for a crawler I am just starting. Revo front and rear ends, and Pede transmission. Only bad side is I will never have full time 4x4 due to the limited slip Pede transmission. Wish I could find a locker for a Pede.

That is a good one too, I forgot about moving a gear! Less messy and reversable.

Actually if it's only a brake...acting on both front and rear together would be fine. But, if you want to use it as a dig type setup then just being a selectable (on or off) locker will not help. All that would do is either lock the front and rear drives together or let it revert back to an open differential. If you wanted to spin one end under power while leaving the opposite end open or on brake...you'd need to have a selectable for both the front shaft and rear shaft...unless you had a shift fork setup like a dig unit.

Yeah sorry left that out. I am thinking front and rear disk brakes, front and rear dig, front and rear steering. Full control of both axels. So I guess with the dual dig I could still have a solid transfer case. Who know working out as I go.

A Summit selectable locker for your Tcase and Cutting brakes. Hope this isn't going in a 2.2. You may not have enough realestate.

| You'd still need two of them though, one for each axle. If you simply use a selectable locker for the center diff/trans, all it will do is either lock or unlock both front and rear shafts at the same time...not one or the other.
