Default Back in the Day?

If you have the time. I would like to see what an original crawler looked like?

Before the time of the AX10 and Bergs, what did the average crawler look like? Anyone got any pictures of there old crawlers? Did the Super come before the 2.2? What did the average crawler guy have to do to create a comp crawler? Yes I'm bored at work looking for a little history on the birth of a RC rock crawler.

This Rockbull was my first crawler. I believe this was late 2005. Clod axles, 55t motors, narrowed Clod wheels and a Novak Super Duty ESC. I miss that rig.

Did anyone take a stock truck or buggy and drop a new motor in or alter the gearing to make it crawl? I had that idea (but never acted on it) back in 2000, or 2001... I had a friend that raced and I was more interested in goin' slow...

My first was the TLT, I still have all the parts. Thinking about building a scaler with it. Had the old super rooster a 55t lathe, 645mg on both ends, with masher 2000's, bulu chassis. No idea when, no pics either.

Tards...

Anyone that posts a picture of ANYTHING that was built after December 2005 just shouldn't post. The OG's that formed the way things are now were all done prior to December 2005.

There were NO PARTS. I remember finding that a GD-600 airplane reduction could actually be used for us. ORCRC had the first 'Pede transmission in a rig back in early 2003. Used for a 2.2 sized crawler and in most of our Supers.

Wait..... There were no classifications back then. It was build it big or go home. Most comps had one class. 2.2's didn't even come into play until late 2004 when everyone learned that there were actual tires that did work.

December 2003... Jugg2 axles, Super Rooster, dual MM's, 8-tooth pinions, TXT Jugg2 transmission, Maxx drivelines, Giant-Tracs on narrowed clod wheels, Savage shocks, rear sway-bar(didn't help) and single servo for steering duties. Talk about a monster truck.

I wanted to say thanks to all who replied to my thread, Thank you. It's cool to see how this sport has evolved, and that those of you who started back then are still having fun now...

Ace had the first RC10 tranny in a 2.2 scale crawler with custom machined axles. He also used my ideas of steel channel frame rails and chassis mounted steering. 2DS was built in early 2003.

My first rig was a scale 2.2 Clod. It had steel frame rails, chassis mounted steering, an interior tub, lights, and a roll bar. I built it in early 2003 because the HPI Bronco body was released.

That rig evolved into The Duke in mid 2004. After RCCrawler came online everone had rigs with larger tires so I made it into a "super" so I could compete. I kept the steel frame, designed a coil spring suspension with cantilever shocks, and went to Maxx size wheels with Savage tires.

In late 2004 The Duke evolved into The SuperDuke since I was then traveling to Utah to compete in UTRCRC events. The SuperDuke is the official RCC logo. The steel frame went away in favor of an aluminum one. At first I kept the coil spring suspension but ditched the cantilever shocks. Later I went to coilovers on the front so I could move the steering servo. It always had coil springs in the rear though.

In early 2005 The SuperDuke became The Duke 2.2. Comps were starting to enjoy the invasion of 2.2's so I built one because that's what I loved from the start. It was the same aluminum chassis with shorter links. The suspension was still coliovers up front with coil springs in the rear but I turned a servo into a winch and simetimes used it to suck down the front suspension.

After that everything becomes a blur.

Hey asshole I make your cutoff. And I quote..... "Super started it all!" Long live the Supers!

Many, many people would say that the pioneer of crawling was Mudcow. His internet videos inspired many of us, including myself.

But yes, the Clodbuster and TLT made it all possible really, IMO.
