Can I ask what you need such long bolts for? There might be a better way to accomplish what your after.

Quick fix would be your local ace hardware store. They rarely have metric allthread but they commonly have 4-40 in stock. I feel ya because I was in a similar situtation. The 4-40 is a little bigger than 3mm and not as big as 4mm. Dont forget to pick up the 4-40 nylon locknuts while your there and some washers. The 3mm or 4mm locknuts your probably have wont work on the 4-40. Post up some pictures of whatever you come up with. And if one store doesnt have it, try another store. Some ace hardwares carry stuff that the others dont. |

If not,3mm drill rod and 2 set screws would be the hot ticket. If these bolts hold the plates on,still use the drill rod deal with set screws then drill and tap the skid and plates to either 4 or 5mm and use short bolts to hold the plates on with the bigger hardware. Slick as a ribbon. This way,you wouldn't really need the set screws as the bigger hardware would hold the rod in place.

of course this is the before shot using 30mm m3 associated screws. But basicly just drilled all the way thru the rod using a m4 drill bit, threaded the 4-40 rod thru, cut off the ends with the dremel and now its tight and solid.
