Has anyone tried the HR Air Shocks ?
 

Looking for a set of nice 120mm shocks to use on a Wreckluse build.
Was wanting something fairly scale looking, with internal springs.
Ran across these HR Air Shocks today, but cant really find any info on them, or what people think about them.

Are they actually using air instead of oil?
Do you think these would be any good for my build?

I have a set of the 100mm shocks and they suck. They don't really use air, they have a spring inside the shock body. They have an initial "stick" at the very beginning of articulation. I oiled the o-rings that the shaft slides on and that worked well for one crawling session. As soon as they dried up they started sticking again. They look cool as hell but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Ah that makes sence I guess if there is no oil to keep them sliding well.
They are filled with air, but not actually using it for damping, thats silly.

Hm, well I guess I am open to any other shock suggestions then!

I would assume that you need to run oil in them. If there is an o-ring on the shaft, It would seem that they intended you to run oil in them.

ive seen 2 rigs on them and have built Tamiya F350 ones, the HRs are just knock offs from the Hi-Lifts.

use either Green Slime from Associated or some other type of thin grease on the o-rings inside.

I would think alittle grease would get them sliding well, but,
With them not having any sort of actual dampaning, I would assume they dont perform ver well?

Im suing RC4WD scale shocks, the blue ones. I have them on my wrekluse build and they work great. They may seem stiff but they work great "thumbsup"

Very nice, you are using the 110mm ones I assume?
Got a build thread for your Wreckluse? I am currently researching all the builds, pulling in ideas for how I want to set mine up.

ive had losi crawler shocks, 110mm dual shocks from rc4wd(way to soft) and none have been as good as these for this truck

Oh I thought you meant you had the dual spring ones, thats what most people seem to run, which do you have?
You can get those dual spring ones the way they come stock, or with optional softer springs.

Any info or tips you can give me would be great, right now I am trying to figure our what shocks I want to run,
and I need to figure out what length the links need to be, I want to order some axial grey links for it.
Do you have any straight on side and rear pics of yours?
What is your wheelbase? and what length links did you use?

im using the blue scale shocks, not the dual's those were to soft
links im using all thread and stainless sleeving. um let me check if i have any here at work

So the dual spring ones were so soft that they let the chassis flop around?
I know that the Wreckluse is going to be alot heavier chassis than I am used to, so I need to keep that in mind.
I typically setup my crawlers with very soft shocks, but this will be a whole new ballgame.

yea the dual stage shocks were way to soft. i havent had any issues with these
you can see the wheels flexing and the chassis is pretty striaght in the pic

Hot Racing Shocks
 

They work great and I'm on my second season with them. I use the Green Slime on the shafts. That keeps the shaft from sticking. They come with soft, medium, and hard springs. I use the mediums and they do good work. To each its own!8)

The HR air shocks are ok. I have them on my Vanquish chassis and I wish I had just bought the Pro-Line shocks. Yes they use air but the o-ring seals dry up and cause the shock saft to stall. Spend the extra cash and buy the new Axial or Pro-line shocks.
