they used to make a tool called a pinion puller. You have to force the pinion off the shaft and then the screw should able to be turned. I usually use a good pair of needle nose between the pinion and motor can and grunt to get the pinion off the shaft. After that you can hammer a small torx bit into the screw and turn it in or out.

If you are using loctite on the pinion set screw here is a tip to keep that from taking place again.
When you go to remove the screw heat the screw with a lighter or even a soldiering Iron then turn it out.

Heat usually works to soften up the loctite and then they come right out.I screwed up several grub screws before I started to heat them

Well it wont work, the screw is already stripped. all it does is spin.

Then I would eithe drill it out and tap the hole for the next size grub screw or just cut the pinion off and install a new one.

i had to grind the pinion off with a cutoff wheel in a dremel when it happened to me awhile back.

So it's the set-screw in the pinion gear on a motor?

Is there any of the grub screw above the hole, or is it below flush?

If there's some threads sticking above the surface of the gear, then use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to slot the top and try to turn it out with a flatblade screwdriver.

If that doesn't work, or if there isn't any threads sticking out, just cut the pinion off with the Dremel. Cut parallel to the motor shaft until it slides off.

I don't mean to be an a$$ but you need to buy a dremel. It is a very usefull tool in this hobby.

At osh there are some small backouts. Had to remove a couple stripped bead screws, 1.5mm cap

Although you'll still need some meat for it to grab. I second the heating part as well.

Good luck with it

For stripped bolts/nuts on cars, you can get cheap sockets from harbor freight and weld them to the hardware. You could kinda of apply this same thing to the smaller stuff. I would have put some jb weld in there, then stick a cheap L wrench in. Let it cure, then give it a try. Just a thought.

Try finding a small straight blade screwdrive you can force into the screw hole and try to loosen it.

Make sure it's the hex in the set screw that is stripped and not your wrench.
