| Delrin Rod Link Size 5/16" or 3/8"
I have searched and seen alot of guys using 5/16" and some mention of 3/8". I know it's only 0.0625" difference between 5/16" and 3/8". But are 3/8" links oversized compared to 5/16" on a 2.2 rig? I plan on using 8/32 thread with revo ends and bending the lowers ones. Thanks. |

Well it's all a matter of preference. I build all my rigs using 3/8 lowers and 5/16 uppers. The 3/8 would be better if you plan on bending them, that small diameter difference makes them stronger in my opinion. When you do bend Delrin using heat, don't get it too hot, take your time. If it get's too hot it will make the Delrin brittle when it cools.

for straight links, i have never had a problem w 5/16" and revo ends, 8-32 threads. but like stated before, don't heat them up to much or its a waste of time.

Heat only at the bend point and don't dip it in water to speed up cooling, just hold it as long as you can. As you heat it, take a look at heated spot, it will show the glossier shade than unheated section, that the time for bending. I bent a lot for my custom mini-t delrin roll cage. Good luck... |

Hey guys i was thinking of doing delrin lower links on my losi comp crawler but the rod seems to be a little flimsy. The local plastic store only had 3/8 and 1/4" both did not seem strong enough. Maybe it is and im just heavy handed. Please let me know what size works best. I dont want the rod to bend and the axel to walk when under a load. thanks

The 1/4" works good for the uppers but not so much for the lowers. The 3/8" might have seemed flimsy when you held a long length of it, but once you cut to link length, you can't bend it by hand. One thing with the LCC is having enough clearance with the bigger rod diameter, I've see it done, but you'll have to make some adjustment to the rod. I would use 5/16" with the LCC. Just my two cents. | |

I use 1/4 for top links and standoffs without issues. I'm pretty good at bending 1/4 cut square bottom links but have never broken any. I am afraid of heating and bending round though. I just cut bent links out of 1/4 sheet and use 4mm black oxide set screws and revo ends. I have bent many 4mm stainless setscrews.
