It might be best to find out what others run in your area. If you build a super and there arent any others to run with, you'll probably get bored....

Pretty easy to build a berg for $1000 if ya don't count radio/charger/batt.
I'd look at some builds and start pricing pieces. I like berg axles, the rockshow chassis and a couple of fx4r combos for a start. That should use up half the budget.

Don't forget the Berg 300 front axles and the berg RC Axle Master rear straight axles. That's $210 for 4 axle shafts. well worth it.

BEST ADVICE 4 U, is to become a paid member and check out the F/S section.
Seriously!!! There are some VERY nice rigs already built for a fraction of the cost of new. (about 5-6 Bergs at the moment).
I paid up and got 2 comp shafties for Christmas last year for less than half of what it would have taken to buy and then build one worth a poop.
Plus you get to deal with some of the best people in the sport. You'll soon be on here everyday anyway once you get a crawler, sharing what you've done or want to do with your rig.
Join us,,,,We've got your back.
Not to mention the deals you get from vendors here that can get you the parts you NEED.

your best bet is to look for something used, I just sold a top of the line shafty(axial) for $360 and im sure you can find something for under 1k that works realy well

I bought an Axial with about $800 worth of work for $400 used here in great shape. I would look at the used section here and find what floats your boat.

I know that it is not going to take my entire budget. I am not a newbie to the art of rc rock crawling. I had ana axial that I comped out before with customer wheels and tires shocks chassis custome links etc etc. lol. I was just wanting to do something a little different this time around. Figured a berg would be a good setup with the 2 stick radio ill be using.

get you some bully axles, they are alot beefier that the bergs and you dont have to buy axle upgrades. they are also cheaper than bergs.

Everyone on here has great ideas and I'll give you mine. Do not buy a used rig on here. People just want to sell their stuff so they can buy more and do what this sport is all about, BUILDING STUFF. If you can score some parts used at a good price that would be good. But only if your building your on rig.
The building aspect of crawling is one of the best parts and is the only real way that you will learn all the ins and outs of your crawler. Because when it breaks...which it will, you will know exactly how everything works and can fix it.
Buying a used complete rig won't give you that knowledge and experience and the honestly the likelyhood that you will completly tear down and rebuild a used rig to learn it inside and out is slim.
I think you will be happy with
-a losi comp crawler
-Novak brushless goat 3s and 21.5 turn brushless motor-
-Vanquish wheels with HB Rovers
-Futaba 3p-mx radio- brand new model and will do everything you need
-some 3 cell lipo packs
- Money left over for goodies down the road.

it will look like this - Up and over's...Losi Comp Crawler Thread

Good luck with whatever... just build your own.
