Split motor setup on TXT??
 

I have been wondering for a while and would like to look into trying it when I have some more time.

Have a GD600 and Lathe now for crawling, does fine.
I still have the need for speed at times, and would like the all in one.

Was pondering, using another motor (fast) on the other side with the apropriate pinion to get the speed I want.

And if one or the other is wanted you would just swap the connector from motor to motor. depending on the mood. Main concern is the other motor freespinning and if it would have any bad effects on anything or if I am missing something.

Good idea or smoking crack. No crawling site cracks, we all like speed too.

Seems like it could be the best of both worlds, or a 2nd gear (allthough not on the fly. ) could use any combination.

I tried this for a while. The unused motor will create a pretty large drag on the other motor. The suspension will be good at crawling, and suck at speed. Focus on one, or focus on the other. Otherwise you will have a vehicle that sucks for both. Just my opinion though. An indy susp rig might be able to handle both, but I havent tried that yet.

the motor thats not used would slow the other down because of its magnets trying to keep it in place. just try spinning one with your hand. as of now I have dual 23T(i think) motors in parallel with 16T pinions and they have plenty of torque and speed at the same time. people can argue about runtimes with this setup.

I figured there would be a good bit of drag on the other motor. That would affect the run time as well I guess.


Not really concerned about suspension handling. I can make that work easy enough. And I am not talking doing full track laps or anything. Just bashing around. so the suspension will work for me.

What kind of motor do you think is needed for the speed side. That can handle the drag of a Lathe, and still get up to 10-15 mph. Buddies have plenty of Titan 550 leftovers.

unless you feed that Titan 14.4volts, it will only turn half speed ;-)

a lathe motor is good for 12volts right? :D

I know people have ran them on 14.4 volts also ;-)

how about a 2 speed tranny? i think all things considered, that would be a much easier and more economic approach.

Would it be possible to start with an e-maxx transmission, but add another input shaft? So when the operator shifted into second gear, the second motor (Which would be a lower turn, higher RPM motor) would take over powering the truck.

it may be possible but its gonna be a pain in the butt, hey u could use the second motor thats just being turrned over by the drivetrain to charge the batt. haha

i would just try and find a combonation of gearing that u like, i have tried tons and my fav one is the stock pinion that came with the gd-600 on a stock can and on the other end of the gd i put a 10 tooth pinion
i like this setup, it has a bit of speed and it has ok torque
