Default 18mt in the works

this is my 18mt with tlt rims/tires. i have since then removed them and am going to run the stockers unless i get another set of tlt rim/tires. what size tooth pinion do you guys think i should use? at the moment im running a 15t with a 55t spur. im getting a new stock chassis, and im going to run a rear setup in both front and rear. im getting some of the soft (silver) springs, mini-t panel wagon body, new long body posts, rear shocks.

on to the pix

will get some more pix soon, the reason it is squating in the rear is because it was missing shock retainers, i got that fixed tho. anbody got any info or help for this project? its just going to be a trail rig. thanks for the help in advance.

Peace, John

Looks good but all that rotational mass is going to eat ALOT of diff gears. If you dont have any extra shims I woud look at getting some and shimming the diff. From the factory They have 2 shims on each diff which usually isn't enough. For gear ratios I would 9/60 or 10/60 which is as low as you can go without moding things.
For a good offroad tire I like the Trinity Monster Offroads. (for the mini-t, make sure you get rears only) They're just a MM or so smaller than the stock MT tires but have a much more aggressive tread.

i put the TLT tires on my 18t too see if it would do any better in the snow. it did do alot better because the torque wasnt there so it didnt ever spin the tires. i did notice some really nasty noises coming from the front end, plus the tire would hit the chassis at full turning. i think i toasted the front diff and i only ran the tires for like 5 minutes. it does look cool with the TLT tires and all, but maybe try mounting up some mini LST tires. they are quite a bit bigger than stock, but still smaller than the TLT tires. if i were to do it again, thats the route i would go.

Can you drive it upside down??? Looks pretty cool, and would be fun, but I think it'd take alot to keep it running.

lol thats cool i bet if you put shorter shocks on it and used just a sheet of lexan for a body there would be no stoping it ..... it reminds me of those old tyco rebounds back a couple of years ago

i think after i get back from the mall tommarow ima have my grandma order me, body, rear shock set, and two pairs of soft rear springs. and order a custom 1150 mah batt later next week. oh what pinion should i get? or should i use the 11t i got? this thing looks like it could be a good trail rig. later on ill get the stuff to get my tlt, go to the post i have for more info.

If you want torque, go with the 9 or 10t pinion and 60t spur. I beat the heck out of my little RC18 and have changed it from an offroad racer to carpet racer to street basher and 10/60 is the best for dirt IMHO. If yours came a a MT, it should have a 60T chassis gear cover, but you might want to take it off and check to be sure. If it has 55 on it, you will need a 60 to use a 60t spur.
The larger diameter of the MLST tires will probably wreak havok with your diffs like the TLTs did, the MT size tires are as large as I would go personaly. I prefer them (trinity monster offroads, cant say enough about them) and I still eat diff gears, thats why I keep extra shims and 2 prebuilt diffs in my box. If you get MLST tires on it, please post some pics, I would like to see them, maybe next to the stock MT tires.
And the upside down pic looks cool.

does anyone know of a 370 can with a lot of torque? im thinkin bout the trinity micro monster but i dont know. so if someone that knows about mini motors, could you please tell me a good motor for torque?

i picked up a pair of deans for the batt today. later on when my grandma gets back ill buy the rear shock kit, 2 pairs of soft springs, and the 50's panel wagon body. i already have the body posts installed. so hopefully i get this thing done soon.

does anyone know if there are aftermarket rims for the mlst? im thinkin about mlst tires but i dont want those fugly rims. if i cant get any help or info on that ill just get some trinity off roads, and rear rpm 10 hole revolvers.

thanks for looking, peace, John

Try to use the EZ start motor for the t-maxx it has plenty of torque

I'm trying to pick up a set of tires (or 2) for my mini-LST project.....

Jake, any chance I could purchase that set from you, or Knytemare?

Been poking around the site for a few weeks now, I'm going to have way too much fun building small crawlers (need ot pick up a TLT-1 as well)

I don't like it, I think it is a waste of a 18MT.

You would have been better off starting with a TLT kit for $80.
