Default How does this look for a basement craw idea?

I'm trying to figure out how to lay it out, but had some ideas I put down in Google Sketch-up.

I was trying to figure out how to build this, and thankfully I found the RCR thread which is exactly what I wanted to do.

RCR's indoor Crawling Wall

Right now I want 15' wide and 7' deep. Will start it about I figure I can do the hanging platform and bridges as a stage 2. Will start it about 2 feet off the ground, and just stick build it and cover it with chicken wire, then cheap bed sheets, then a layer of quick creete.

It's not going to be as angular as shown, just a rough idea.

Got my start of wood from the home depot 85% off pile. I don't have a truck, but got a pass-threw hole to access my trunk so I can fit 8' boards.

Cost me 13$ for 16-17 1x4x8' and a bunch of 2x2x8' boards. Pretty much all they had at the time. Only 3 mi from my house, so I guess I'll check back after a few days......

Enough to get me started. I really don't want to drill into the basement walls, so will just build a back frame as well.

It's just a cart in the back of the store in mine.

Soon.

I'm thinking some low voltage lights hidden through the course might be interesting as well.

I think it should be a rope bridge instead of wood planks...

looks like a good design

my only question is why 2ft off the ground?
are you going to put storage under it?

Well, no reason really. I thought it looked a bit nicer that way and would look more intentional to the wife.

Maybe only 1 foot? I think a border\base of some sort will make it look more finished, than a WTF is that to someone coming down to the basement that has no clue about crawling LOL

I was wondering the same thing.
Base or no base, it's still going to be a WTF to someone who knows nothing about crawling.

If it were me i would go with something around 1' or so, that way you could make some obstacle to go from the floor up to the crawling area. Or make several different, movable starting obstacles. That would give you more possible lines to crawl, and change things up from time to time.

I like the design. Keep it up If i had a basement i would def. do something similar. For now i will freeze my @ss off to do some crawling.

I think I'll drop to 1 foot then. It's just more of a way to keep a even base that I can put some sort of flooring up to later when we eventually finish off the basement. I thought a wet bar\LCD TV would fit nicely in the same area perhaps, but that is just me.

We have about 1700sf total basement space (300 of that is a storage\crawl 18" raised section) so this will not take up much room.

that is a cool idea, another place where you can get wood for almost free is any job site...go up to the super and ask if he has any palets.."normaly" they are just tossing them..pallets are 4x4 or around there. 2x4s and 1x4s...
