Thanks Shelby. I'm moving it into a triangle of old mature trees about 50' from the house. I hope I can add some rock as I do. I've learned alot about what type of challenges make the courses fun over the last year. There will be many waterfall type ledges, straddles, and some walls to shoot. Several piles seperated just far enough to shape a long winding canyon between them. The course will wrap around the trees, and I will be welding some support lattice to let me make a more substantial arch(es?). Will be building a support for a usable tunnel also. It's right by the pool equipment so power is there for lights. Gonna be a good winter. If I don't break my back. |

| New Garden Begins...
Got a few hours today to mess around in the yard. I still need to put paper down but I got to test out some ideas. This first one is going to be called Step Mountain, there are 3 steps going up the pile, ending on a sandstone shelf on the backside of the tree. This is all rough work, but this pile is close to final shape. Each shelf has lines that my mini can make, or lines that my 2.2 can't, depending on where you put the gates. All that is left is to use some sandcrete to fill in some of the gaps and give it a more finished look. This is the backside of the Step Mountain, it shows what I call the Backside Slide, a long piece of sandstone that undercuts the top shelf. If you look closely you can also see another route to get you to the front side. The entire pile wraps 2/3 of the base of the tree. This section will be getting more rock to finish this side of the tree. This will be Finger Mountain. I need to pull the cinderblocks to lay paper down. This is just a mock up to finalize the support structure. Having the blocks radiate out from the tree will allow several routes to the top shelf and lots of changes in elevation across the fingers. Hopefully more to come tomorrow... |

Hey what a nice set up. I couldn't imagine not having rocks/mountains to play on all the time, but if I couldn't this would be one of the most fun projects I would love to tackle!! I am sure this thread has given many the inspiration to attempt and for that I THANK YOU!! Looking forward to seeing your build report.. Reb |

Got a bit more done today, sleep be damned. Overrated. Not much to look at yet but now you can see the footprint. It is going to swallow all the rock I've got and then some. |

Thanks man, had something interesting happen last night a little after midnight. I have the colored rocks sorted and restacked around the "Fingers" now so I was trying it out with Minijuice. All of a sudden I hear wingbeats and this loudass scream from about 10' away. An owl almost swooped in and stole my mrc! I'll be away for a month or so, will update with pics and progress then. Thanks for following along! |

The moon was bright, I'd have followed him. They don't usually go far with a kill before they stop to tear into it. I might have been able to get it to drop it by peeling out on him. |

Got some extra time at the house so I put some hours in yesterday and today. Here's the red rock in place around the finger section. Most of the big pieces are in place, alot of the smaller rocks need to find a home. Here's an overall, followed by soime action shots to show scale and some of the available lines. |

My neighbor has a couple houses going up and was nice enough to give me his concrete spoil. Here's a couple of it as it arrived. Several hours later yesterday, I had the basic shape of the new base laid out. Basically a winding track around the trees, with a few tunnels planned. I tried to set it up so that there will be canyons as well as hills to climb. I eventually broke out the hammer and chisel and made some interlocking notches to tie the tops of the slabs together. Damn things fell 3 times while I was stacking them together. Feels like a couple hundred pounds easy. Pay attention to this shot below, there's been some big changes here. Here's an overall of what I've got so far. I have nowhere near enough rock to cover it right now. Last edited by shelljeep; 10-25-2010 at 07:16 PM. |

Remember the 2 slabs leaning against each other? This is what they look like now. Meet Mount Ridiculous. It will be a long time before alot of these lines are mastered. This thing ate up a good third of the riprap from my original garden. Here's a few action shots to show the scale of the pile and some of the steepness. Here's a sequence: Big tunnel with a squeeze to get in. Shot of the other side: |
