Servo's stripping gears
 

OK, not sure if its just me, if im doing something wrong, to hard on it... ect.

Got a used tlt/sw3 base crawler had a 645mg on it. . . worked fine for about 2 weeks then it stripped the gears. So I ordered a hobbico 150mg from reading threads on here they are supposed to be ok. Had it on for a week and it stripped the gears. No servo saver... the 645 had a plastic horn, the 150 got a metal horn. What gives, just about everyone on here runs that way. ?????

Your servo is getting overpowered by your rig. I would upgarde to a stronger servo that has 300oz+ torque. I use JR 8711's.

Yes, I have broken a Hitec 645.

You may be able to get away with running a 645 on a basher rig that isn't weighed down like a comp crawler. Since you are running a SWX, I assume you aren't just bashing.

Make sure ther is no binding in your steering. Adjust your epa to under full lock (don't let the servo bottom out). If it doesn't turn ease up. Don't bash into stuff. Do all the above and the servo will last about 6 months. A least that is about all I get out high dollar servos.:-(

I've stripped 2 cs 150's and about 4 645 servos, and then I got smart and got 2 hobbico cs 170 servos rated at 333 oz of torque"thumbsup" I've never had a problem since.

I just stripped a 645.....was totally my fault but I see the need for something with more torque.....

Right now I am just learning, first rc crawler. But yes it is set up for comps and I plan on some. I will just have to get something better. You ever break the jr8711?

I think you might be on to something here lol... I have been pretty hard on it testing everything out. It broke this time when I was trying to make a ledge and got a little wheel speed.

I need to get a pic of the steering setup, I moved it up above the knuckle. I do not see any binding, but the two links are almost on the same plane. Any problem with that?

I've busted gears twice in a 645, but both times it was after a fall. Otherwise they hold up pretty well. Getting your EP's set properly is still a very good idea though.

I beat the crap out of my 8711 and bind it up all the time, I've ran it for a year without a single issue though.

well kinda/sorta/not really.

After about 14 months of heavy crawling including comps, bashing and constant practice, my 8711 has gotten a little glitchy ( at random times...not during a comp luckily) and there is a little play when you move the output by hand. The play is something that all 8711's eventually get and I don't really think it's a big deal.


I will say that even after all of that I will still run the 8711 happily. Last week I sent it in to get repaired, and with shipping costs to and from I'm paying about $16 bucks total. "thumbsup"

Well im getting the 150 fixed right now. So I will just be gental till I get some money up for one.
