New Frame

building a frame/its kinda overkill but was the smallest square tube i could find for now. not sure about suspension yet.
wanted to run leaf springs but dont think it would look right with the frame & body.
& dont mind the welds, it was late & i was in a hurry.

Interesting. Are you running the shocks as links like that, or is that just for mock-up? Seems kinda of like regressing a bit - putting a square tube frame and leaf springs under a vehicle that is all tube and has coil overs "stock" ;-) But I like the way the frame tucks up under the body. Is it pretty rigid? The 1:18 rigs are pretty light, but it looks like you could toss another cross-brace in there, just for good measure. Are you mounting all the "guts" up in the cab?

there will be more bracing. i'm gonna mount my servo on the fram tucked under the hood.

the battery will be in the center.possibly tucked up halfway in between the seats but back a little/ with a skidplate across.
& the electronics are gonna be in the back seat or on back somewhere.
i am not sure about the suspension yet. was gonna do leafs but the nylint axles are kinda big for that(doesnt look right..
might make some different links/ran outa time.

that reminds me of the old tamiya blazing blazer. looks pretty cool.

got my servo mounted, & my battery tray made

It looks like you are going to get alot of bump steer on with that servo placement. Looks good otherwise.

Mad Scientist 01-21-2006 09:19 AM

Why not mount the servo on the axle where the original steering assembly goes? Are going for a scale look, or is there another reason? It is up to you, but like RD400 said, you are going to get a lot of bump steer, and your articulation may be affected. And if you put the servo on the axle, you could put a winch up where the steering servo is now ;-)

jeepguy 01-21-2006 12:53 PM

going for a more scale look! as good as i can get with these axles anyway.

wont get much bump steer with the low gear mod, it barely moves.
i want everything tucked up in between the frame rails for a low cog & smooth look.
then i wont need much lift for good ground clearance.
i am not going to go for alot of articulation but a more realistic suspension travel.
with the heavier frame & decreased wheel travel it should pull tires off the ground as it climbs the bigger rocks.

heres some redneck links i made out of some brass roundstock i had.(or copper, whatever it was it was hard to drill through)

the rear is ok, but the front needs to be way different(no flex.

thats a shame! so your going to be left with a nylint bodied TLT....

it was looking sooo good in that last pic!

i think i'll finish it the way it is & build a whole new fram for my next truck using my camo scorpian body//i wanna see what this thing will be like on the rocks.
