Default Another buildup

I got another friend in our 4wd club into the R/C crawling so to start out cheap we picked up a Scorpion. I made him drive it stock for a little, then we ripped into it, modding it similar to my comp style nylint, but he didnt want his as low. So I built some brackets to raise the body a little bit compared to mine, and while I was doing that he and his roomate painted the body, made stickers for the wheels and decals.

As far as the mods, we got rid of the entire stock tranny, only using the stock electronics, axles, wheels, and body. Bought about 10 bucks worth of materials, half of which was the piece of aluminum to make the brackets from. It is mostly finished, and we will hopefully get some action pics tomorrow if the weather works for us.

This is the third nylint I have built using this type "suspension" and I would put it against most other types of suspension, simply for ground clearance while having a very low C of G. I will be able to put that theory to test once another friend finishes his linked Nylint.

Now for some pics.

Action pics to come soon.

I have had better performance out of them turned backwards, simply because the tire seems to grab better with the lug pattern facing / \ instead of \ /. It keeps the surface your crawling on in the middle of the tire, instead of sliding off. The tires however do not perform very well until they have lugs cut out as well, to help the tires conform better.

Just try it and see if it helps you any, but for me I noticed an improvement. (would take tires off and switch after an attempt at an obstacle to see if the vehicle stuck any better in certain areas. Hope this helps, and I am sure other people will chime in on that subject as well.

Well that all depends. You gain stability, but steering is affected. You will get hung up on some obstacles, but it allows you to take lines you couldn't before. So you have to look at what your wheeling to see if it will help you. If you are crawling in small rock gardens, or say a drainage ditch with rip rap stone, then you will get hung up alot more. But if you are crawling on larger bolders, straddling valleys/etc then you might gain some capability.

Hard to answer if it will help for you or not, but where we wheel around here it is beneficial.
