Default Tell me what you think of my Chassis

Last night I was sitting at the computer for about 5 hours striaght trying to come up with a chassis that would work. I think this should be it. All the weight is down low with a chassis maounted battery and laydown tranny. It was designed around TLT with pede tranny. You are able to use the stock TLT chassis standoffs.

Please tell me what you think.

Edit:
Overall hight: 3"
Overall Length: 7.5"
Width at bottom: 3.5"

might want a little more material on the bottom, under the trans cut out.

I really need more input. Do all you with exsperience think this will work? I don't want to put all the time and effort into someting that may not work.

It looks like it should work just fine - adding a lower skid plate of some sort is a good idea, though. It is basically like every other TLT/Pede based chassis out there. I don't mean that in a derogatory manner, what I mean is that it is a proven design, with the twin vertical plates and all. So it shouldn't completely fail for some unforeseen reason. All the chassis needs to do is locate the tranny and "guts", and allow mounting places for the links and shocks. As long as it is structurally sound and allows proper mounting locations, it'll work out fine. Deciding the "optimum" location for the battery and mounting points is up to you though. You may want to make a prototype out of plastic or wood, just so you can tweak the design if you need to.

Just one thing I noticed - make sure those lower chassis braces will give you enough clearance for the driveshafts.

Looks good.. Only suggestion I could offer is that you design into the chassis a plastic/nylon skid plate.. There is a lot to be said about the help this little devil does.. Its a world of difference on mine and I bet that those that use it would agree.. Keep up the good work..!

How about staring at a dictionary for 5 hours? Your spelling sucks.

That's how you learn.

Trial and error.

The more errors you make, the faster you learn.

Good point. I was thinking of cutting one out to see how it works and make mods I need to.

Well you can really determine how much artic its going to have ahead of time. It all depends on your final setup. But on this chassis there will be multiple holes drilled for multiple mounting points for shocks and both upper and lower links.

Well I was thinking of doing some frame rails. I could have a set done in 1 to 2 hours but theres some stuff I'm unsure about. I wanted to bend the metal instead of cutting and welding. I was thinking like .5" square tubing and bending it about 30* at each bend, but I'm unsure if those bends are possible.

And yes those braces to clear the shafts. But I just randomly placed them somewhere just so you can get an idea.

Take it from the guy who originally designed a chassis with battery cut outs. Battery's don't belong sideways. Just don't. The benefits of running the pack on your links or front axle are just too great to ignore by doing that type of a setup.
