I have been on vacation so no work got done. So, since I had the day off today I decided to do some work.

The second course section is now framed out and the roof of the tunnel is fairly well done. We still have a little bit to go but, hopefully we can start getting wire on these this weekend.

we got a comment from a certain company, that they didnt want to sponsor us because of the quality of last years course. Instead of getting mad (heck we had less than 2 months and no budget to plan and build with last year) I made the decision to make this course look a little more proffesionally made. So, I came up with the idea of using tubing (emt conduit actually) for the towers and ramps. Its slightly more expensive but will give us a much better looking display.

The big ramp/tower is the main portion in the rear which will carry the COWRC banner. The ramp on 1 side is 55* and the other is 50*. It will have 2 ramps up the front and if I can figure out how to do it, ATV tires to complete the look.
The small section is a display rack that will hold crawlers and possibly a tv.

I spent a couple hours working on the sections. I built a small "hill" and valley section on the front of the first section. Its actually bigger and harder of an obsticle than you would think. You cant see in the picture but the valley drops 5" under the level of the course and has a plywood bottom so we can mold some nasty rocks into it.

On the second section I started gluing on foam to the bottom of the hill. That way we have some small verticle drops/ledges.

Sorry its taking so long to get updates, things have been real busy and I havent been able to get any help until this weekend.

Chicken wire added to piece 1

Burlap being added

First layer of concrete... we used 4000psi sacrete as a base coat on this piece

We ran out of concrete so I ran to Menards for 12 more bags of sandmix and then we started piece #2

I had planned to put a couple rocks in this piece and save the rest for the waterfall on an upcoming piece but, my neighbors grandson was having fun bringing me rocks...

The area over the foam has wire but no burlap and as you can see this piece needs a topcoat of crete.

we had a little crete left so we went ahead and topcoated the first piece

Tonight after the comp I fixed the damage to my truck and went crawling... I found that piece #1 has limited lines and is a royal PITA to climb but since the comp is the Illinois State Championships, PITA climbs arent really a big deal

Course #2 is flat out badass! There are lines everywhere. The sides are very difficult and nearly impassable when going up and down is a big rollover if you arent ready.

We stood back and looked at the courses after we built them and have come up with some great ideas for the next 2 pieces.

last years course was short and kind of thrown together. We had 2 months notice to get something together when another event backed out. This year we started planning right after the event.

depends on which section... the sides are almost 90* The front is about 60* with some funky traction (both slick and grippy). Just wait until you see what we are doing on the next 2 pieces

I didnt do very good at taking pictures but, here is the start of section 3. The depression will be where "some" water resides.

We were able to pickup some casters from a dumpster company... They are slightly smaller so I had to double up the 2x6 supports. That saved us about $120, we just had to do a little work on a few to get them usable.

Brad stopped by so he could give a second opinion on the pieces... we determined my initial assement was right, these are the best we have ever built.

Hopefully the 2.2 trucks in the pictures give you an idea of size.

The broken area in the picture is where I was doing some "remodeling" with my foot. I have recreted it since this pic was taken.

We had a work day and all but completed 1 more section... This section is a combination of scaler and comp. The left side of the main face is a waterfall and the entire lower area is a catch basin that will have 2-3" of water.

We started with a frame (and our first attempt didnt work so well)

Foam added for shelves

allot of concrete (8 60# bags)

the "shelves" take shape

Im not as impressed with how this piece came out but, I think it will work great for its intended purpose. I just wish we could have made it a bit more "natural" looking... Right now it looks like a water feature from someones back yard.
