| 2010 I Hobby Crawler course build presented by Tekin
First to thank our current sponsors: Tekin, without them we wouldnt have the money to build, and the prizes they are sending will be great CowRC, Heath has been very generous with prizes for this years comp Krawler Hobbies, More prizes for the comp If anyone would like to get their name mentioned at the event, we still have plenty of sponsorship spots open. After the success of last year, SCRC was asked to come back to The International Hobby Shop for 2010. We have been provided a 50' x 25' slot for the course (this is about $18,000 in floor space!!!) Since we had done a build last year we new what to expect so, we also new what to do BETTER. First we came up with a plan. Then we changed the plan a few times. Our main goals were easy to load/unload and easy to transport (I will most likely be transporting by myself again this year ). With over 20,000 people including about every manufacture in RC and shops from all over the world in attendance, we wanted it to look nice this year (last year was ok but definatly thrown together). We had to include: steep climbs, scaler sections and a large realistic section. I started by building a bridge for the scalers... Its constructed using the center supports from a house trailer and some ingenuity. A little rustoleum for heavy rust and some decking and here we go cost on the bridge was about $8 Now for the "Main Section" each of these pieces will be about 2000# when they are done so, strength is a big deal. The main beams are 2x8 treated, the joists are 2x6 on 24" centers. I used Gorilla glue, screws and joist hangers to put everything together. Shown above is the construction of 1 base, they are 6'x8' on 600# rated casters. The second base is about half done but, it started raining so I called it a day. If you notice, I was smart and added 1/2" eye bolts, 2 on each side and 1 on the front. Last year we had a heck of a time securing everything and I didnt want a repeat. We have already blown most of our build budget on just these pieces so we are desperatly looking for another cash sponsor or some donations. If you are interested in driving at Ihobby, I will be taking names after SCRC and WiRCRC clubs are given a chance. We are only allowing 40 spots this year. |

That bridge looks rather flimsy don't you think? Looking forward to this event again this year. Should be a good time. |

As the co-organizer for this event, I'd personally like to thank the already signed up sponsors and potential sponsors. With crowds in the 10,000's it's sure to be a great event again this year. Looking forward to driving with everybody and also the Tekin team driver! If anybody is considering jumping on and getting your name in the spotlight you can contact me or Jetboat. |

Addictedtonitro and ThunderVP stopped by and we came up with a full plan for the course. We also did a bit of work framing things up. Mining tunnel anyone? |
