metal rod ends
 

i saw on http://www.mcmaster.com there are a lot of choice about metal rod end, does someone use them for his truck, i would put them in my steering link, can you suggest me lenght and size..

I've used metal rodends before, but the problem I had with all of them was that they loosened up at the threads too easily, no matter how much loctite you used on them. This probably happened because they were cheap aluminum rodends though. If you could find some that were made out of all steel then it might be worth it.

I've used rc4wd's aluminum rod ends before. They worked for what I was wanting just fine. I used the 3mm ones but I know that they make 4mm and some other sizes. Never had a problem with them loosening up(with loctight of course). The only downfall that found to be with them is that their is a little slop in the ball. But it wasn't enough for me to worry about.

Pretty sure that the one's you're looking at on McMaster would be a bit large for use on a 2.2 or smaller, but could possibly be used on a super and still be a bit of overkill. Smallest size they have are the 6-32 shanked that are steel on steel and no race...are over an inch long...and are $42 each :shock:

The metal rod ends on McMaster are different than most of the "metal" ends you'll find for hobby use. Most hobby use one's are aluminum with either aluminum balls, or steel balls inside a race of somekind. The one's on McMaster are the same type of construction you'd find in full sized rod ends.

In my expierience with several different brands of aluminum hobby grade rod ends are that the ball tends to wear very quickly and they start to get sloppy...not to mention noisey with rattles and squeaks.

I've not tried RC4WD's newer scale rod ends yet though.

x2, i also have been using there plastic rod ends and never had a problem and there alot cheaper and i run my truck almost daily

Plastic ones are fine, especially if you get longer screws through them
