| VMG Drive Shaft Question
I USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY INFORMATION REGARDING VMG DRIVE SHAFTS TO HELP ME WITH MY QUESTION. I have a VMG that I am in the process of extending. I see that alot of people are stretching their drive shafts to make them work with the extension. My question is.... HOW ARE YOU DOING IT? I would like some detailed instructions and some pics if possible. Like I said I searched for the info I'm looking for but did not find it. If I just missed it somehow, I'm sorry. Any information will be appreciated. Clark |

I cut the shaft in half, took a section of brass tubing, and soldered it back together with the brass extension. strong, easy, and really fast mod.

Yep, like he said. Cut the shaft in half, cut some aluminum/brass tubing to length, and then I dipped my VMG shafts in JB weld, then inserted and let set overnight. The torsional strain isn't enough to break the JB weld.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna give it a try. Do you think anyone would want to trade a gear reduction that fits a VMG for a set of new VMG wheels and tires...(VMG Wheels were narrowed by cutting off inside bead. other than that they have never been ran or used.) Just wondering if you thought anyone would bite on that offer if I put it in the wanted forum. Clark |

You don't know unless you post. I think you'd be on the losing end of that deal though.

Are you running reductions? I broke many driveshafts before I finally came up with a good way to stretch a drive shaft. My gear reduction is too much, and the smooth shaft was breaking free inside and spinning. I did find a better way, but you guys might want to check you shafts if you are running reductions at all.

This is what did. I only broke one while under load, and with a gear reduction. | |

Whalebone, Yeah it is the truck I got from you. Here is what it looks like now. I'm in the process of trading it off already though. I am trading for a 1:6 Scale NYLINT Scorpion. For some reason I can't get away from those NYLINTS. I've had about 5 of them. I build them and trade them and build them and trade them. Sometimes I think I like building the trucks more than running them. Clark |
