Default Axle questions

I'm assembling parts for a 1/6 scale jeep, I have heard that twin/Mad force axles are 12" which should work with the body's 12.5" width. I have also seen where people running large tires have issues with the x-factor axles and that they are 14" wide which would work for that full-size axle swap look. My question is about the worm drive axles, I believe their is the losi, and rock force in this category, I like the idea of worm gears mainly for the fact that since I will be running the 8.6" rock loxs the reduction would help with gearing.
Does anyone know the widths of those two axles and anyone have good or bad experiences with them? Thanks.
