Default Free Crawlin' II- Vertical Smile Big Bastard

Got started on my DoubleJ Vertical Smile chassis project, using the Kyosho Free Crawler that sucked. Now the indy suspension is locked out, Maxx-style, and 4-linked. I still need to mount the tranny and make a motor plate, and put some limiters in those Savage shocks. 4-inchers make it sit too low and limit travel too much. I'll see how it sits with a motor, battery and all that stuff and then decide how much to limit the droop.

I ran out of links, so this is as far as I got tonight:

Not this one. It's as rough as a corn cob up the azz.

Except for the chassis, that part's pretty sweet

I may be biased but I think it looks great.
Can't wait to see it finished. And see how it holds up to some abuse..

Still quite a ways from done, but at least it's got four wheels down. I'll work on the motor plate and see if I can hang a motor on this big turd (no offense, DoubleJ, I'm referring to its beginnings)

Looking Gooooddddd.
You know we could always change the name to Vertical Turd. :-x (Best I could find to simulate a turd. Thats what my 3yr old looks like when doing his business. Why don't we have a turd smiley?) If the chassis ends up being one.
Can you get a side shot for my ego? I want to see how the ground clearance is without the flex.

The Turd's WB is 16 inches right now, but that can change.

I lost the Savvy shocks, put some 4-inchers on, attached to the skidplates of all places, but it seems to work. Needs some ball mounts at the top to get some swivel action at the chassis.

3-1/2 inches under the tranny. Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to use that cool skid

About all it needs now are driveshafts and rear steering.

Wow, what an incredibly random technical glitch! The motor's magnetic field must be so strong that it scrambled the digital camera's brain, or something.

It's really a shame that you can't see the motor, because it's a damn good one

Driveshafts are in, and it moves under its own power

I win.

Still needs 4WS set up (rear is locked out for now) and a few more tweaks, but it's running and driving, and pretty impressive. I'll experiment with battery placement to see what works best. Laying it on top of the chassis can't be the best arrangement

Are you going to put a body on it? I would like to see what it looks like with a body placed on it.
Action shots are always manditory.

I'll recycle this body for it. Cool sticker, huh?

It'll sit up higher once I add some body posts.

Thanks for the body shot.
I do like the way the sticker looks. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not but I think it will work.
that's a trip what the motor does to the camera didn't see it do it with the body on it though.

The battery might work if I cut (connect) both holes and make one large one. The battery could slid in and mount there somehow. Just a thought.

Yeah, funny thing about that motor. The more I PhotoShop it, the worse it gets, and it only seems to affect the motor and speedo. What an amazingly random occurrence

I strapped the battery to the front axle, on what used to be the shock tower. Slotting the chassis for the battery would be great for a Clod setup, but doesn't help us shafty guys much.

So far I'm impressed with how well it works. It'll be interesting to see what the other guys come up with.

Best part is, I've got about $30 in this thing. The wheels & tires were a Christmas gift, the Kyosho was a gift, the chassis was a freebie, and the rest is either recycled or doesn't officially exist.

What kind of outrunner is it? Truck looks good. I thought it was a 2.2 from the first picture.

(these better be good, because my outrunner is in the mail.. I was reading about them, and you convinced me to get one.)

Outrunners are great. You can't beat 'em for power to weight ratio.

As for what this one is, pick one:

Wiper motor from an '88 Yugo
O.S. .91FX running on biodiesel
six Mamba 8000's around one spur gear
Cold fusion reactor

or something really cool that you'll be able to buy in about six months~1 year. Goatworks Skunkworks has been busy
