Since alot of people use these shocks on other trucks I thought I would post this in general. I have an emaxx with a mantis chassis. I have problem with my shocks. THe keep unscrewing them selves apart. At the top where it comes apart to put in diffrent oil, during a crawl it will just come apart. The thread is not ruin so I dont think it is ripping apart. Any body else have that happen. I got video of it, I will hopefully will have it up tonight.

No not yet, I am waiting to see if this is a problem many people see or if it is something wrong with the way I have them set up. I dont want to get Diffrent shocks just to mess those up, if it is something wrong with the setup.

Post up pics of your setup. I'm running exactly the same thing, one on a mantis and one on my own creation similar to the mantis. I've beat the hell out of both of them and haven't had any problems with shocks coming undone.

I just loaded a video and you can see a fast shot at the end of it where the shocks came apart. Click Here

I used to have that problem on my Tmaxx during races or huge jumps. But I really can't see it happening during rock crawling unless you fall off a 6-7 foot cliff and land on one wheel. Anyways whenever mine would blow the caps off, I would temporarily fix them with CA glue. They I would replace the shock body or cap. Usually the cap was the problem. I would go with aluminum caps or switch to AE shocks.

A guy here in towns truck used to do that. It was from over articulating. One more thing, ditch the Traxxas upper shock mount, use fuel tubing. Not as much twisting action on the shock cap.

i think it's in the gallery but i've seen pics of the traxxas caps with a rod end instead of the standard shock cap mount. i did a little experimenting after seeing this. all you have to do is pull the cap off. cut the stock rigid loop off it. then drill a hole in the center of the cap. then put a screw that will fit whatever rod end you have through that hole and screw the rod end on it. there you go you have a nice free moving pivot point on the top of the shock as well as the shaft end. i have not run this shock yet, just made one. the little rubber diaphram should keep the oil from going to the screw but it probably wouldn't hurt to cover the screw head inside the cap with a small amount of silicone. that or squirt a small dab in the rod end before you put the screw into it

I am not using the stock mounting. I am thinking of either going with the aluminum caps, but then I am worried about ruining the shock body. So I might just switch out to aluminim shocks.

I took a close look and examined the shocks during all stages of articulation. At 85% articulated they hit the chassis so the last 15% there are being bent, which I believe to be the reason for them to come apart. When I flex it by hand I can actually see the cap start to pull away from the body, so out came the trusty dremel and I ground down that part of the chassis. I only got the front done last night but it seems to have solved the problem, the real test will be the next time I take it out. THanks for all your help and suggestions. P.S. this has nothing to do with the Mantis Chassis, I made some adjustment to the chassis that caused this, I still give me full indorsment to JeepJunky and his product
