Default Locking diffs question.

Every diff I have locked so far has been with JB weld, and I have had 0 problems. I know several people have used hot glue to lock them, and I am wondering if that may be a quicker and easier way to do it.

So, IF YOU HAVE USED HOT GLUE to lock diffs, how has it held up for you? Anyone have a problem with it?

I just read this, and took it for what it was worth:

I had some JB weld on order, but, in my excitement, I decided to use hot glue to lock the diffs (I have heard that it works).

Well, let me clear up any question that you may have about hot glue.... ahem.... IT DOES NOT LOCK THE GEARS !!!!

It was solid for about 5 minutes of run time, then I started to notice a rear wheel slipping, then a front wheel. The center

diff, however, is still locked. The hot glue actually makes the diffs act kinda like a limited slip differential. It will slip, but

it takes quite a bit of force to do so.

I had my first tlt axles locked up with hot glue. After a while the glue gave way and just got munched up.

Yeah the hot glue eventually gives way.

I've used 2 and 5 ton epoxy it works great and sets up in about 5 min.

i used hot glue on a Pede trans . first time it eventually gave out. 2nd time it seemed to stay. But that is on plastic gears.. on metal diffs, i would just use JBweld or a 2part expoxy.

I used hot glue to lock my clod diffs. Ran it over a year, only one diff gave out. The other was perfectly fine.

I locked my TLT diffs with hot glue, but havent ran them yet.

One thing I don't like about JB welding the TLT diffs, is that if you strip the ring gear or anything, you have to buy a whole new diff since you can't get the 2 halfs apart after they have been JB'ed.

I've used hot glue since I started crawling with great success. I had one open after about 1 1/2 years of constant use. In all my time crawling just that one only opened on me.

If you are locking tlt diffs, you can just flip around one of the 3 diff gears and wedge it between the other two. Removable, quick, and easy.

I have Hot glue in all of my diffs, tlt, clod, and TXT. I think the diffs that fail are poorly done and people do not get the glue into the teeth well enough thus causing them to fail under heavy use. Just put as much glue in as humanly possible and you will be good to go.
On my 2.2s I will strip the hex on the wheel long before I trash a locker and as AdamF pointed out, TLT ring gears are cheaper to replace.
I have not tried hot glue on a pede tranny yet but I do not think that will hold becasue it is harder to get the glue into the teeth before it sets up.

I use hot glue to lock the diffs in my 2.2 clod. So far it has held up, but it is only temporary until I can get some tracgears or Inetrc lockers.
When I locked the diffs in my super class clod with hot glue it did not last very long before it turned into crumbs (it now has Inetrc.com lockers).

I've used hot glue and its help up better than jb weld. Actually a diff has never come unlocked, and one that i jb welded did. I think the hot glue works better because it has a little bit of give, rather than the jb weld that would just break apart. Also with hot glue you can just pick the gears out with no problem if you ever needed to unlock them for any reason.

If you got a JB welded diff to break loose I think it was operators error.

Solder works well too, as long as the gears are metal.

I stripped the hex in a JB locked diff in my clod.

I had no spares at the time and I wanted to crawl, so I decided to 'unlock' the JB'd diff.

It took me over an hour to chip it out. Never again !

I've always JB welded mine. I have had my TLT for aalmost 2 years and the ring and pinion show no wear but I did shim them when I got them to take the slop out of the gear mesh. I pulled them apart last weak after breaking a housing and the gears should no wear so I will stick with JB weld.
