| Sealing HPI/Axial diffs
Hello Does anybody know of a way to seal the diffs of either an Axial or a HPI WK diff. They are the same construction and I've used HPI diffs in Axial axels and vice versa. Now I want to try to unlock the diffs but use very heavy diff oil to slow down the wheels (hope you understand). With heavy diffoil the diffs will be partly locked. The question is: How do I seal the diffs to keep the oil inside (if possible)? |

The only thing I could think would be to use some gasket sealer on the diff. cases. But I don't know if that would totally seal it. It may be better to use a thick grease. Maybe you wouldn't have to seal off the diff. Then

if its a liminted slip/ posi-trac you want id just throw some silly putty in there and not have to worry about sealing it. as for thick grease after the first spin it all gets spread out of the way and makes a mess

Never thought about silly putty. I bet that would work just fine.

Thanks. I am totally unfamiliar with this "silly putty"-stuff. On eBay i find mostly some toy-eggs or some "putty" that becomes hard and can be sanded. Can someone point me in some direction of what to buy (maybe a link) ?? |

Silly putty comes in an egg. It's a child's toy, that is a little like a plastic clay. It was designed as a rubber substitute during WWII. I've never tried it in diffs, but some have and were happy with the results. You might also try some 120,000wt diff fluid. It's pretty thick, so it will probably last in the diffs for a while even if they are not totally sealed. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNXJ1&P=7 |

Thanks. I'll buy me an "egg", but first I'll try diffoil assuggested. I have som Traxxas 500.000wt oil from my Slash. If it leaks it's time to use the egg.

The axial diffs have gaskets to seal the ring gear and plastic case. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSAP7&P=7 For the outdrives that stick out of the small holes on the sides, you might try some o-rings such as these, but I'm not sure of the diameter of the Axial outdrives.: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCWK6&P=7 |

500,000 has to be pretty gooey/thick. If it stayed in the Slash diff, it should also stay in the Axial diff.
