Axial's transmission spur gear cover!

i was lucky enough to get one of these yesterday at the R.E.C.O.N G6 in reno yesterday as well as a set of axial's new ripsaw tires, i have done a step by step build with hopefully some helpful pic's

Likes

install's easily onto existing ax10/scx10 tranny's with no mods needed
cleanly cover's up spur/pinion gear's
added protection for spur/pinion gear's
lightweight
no more having to use/fumble with the spacer's that seperate motor plate and tranny "thumbsup"
works with or without slipper

dislikes

(if needed) have to remove tranny from rig to remove cover to adjust/repair spur/pinion mesh (so u should have it adjusted right)

will not work with MIP driveshafts w/o modding the cover

photo's coming ASAP!

wanna know a secret?

.

I would run one...

:lmao:

CreepyCrawl 03-13-2011 05:44 PM

Looks close with the MIPs...think there's enough material thickness to Dremel for clearance?

i thought there would be, but the thickness of the cover is pretty thin, i was gonna try it but i only have one! , i was looking into the junfac drivelines, but i really wanted to see one in person

team3six 03-13-2011 09:05 PM

Cant remember who makes them here, but someone makes the extended outputs, So that should solve that issue.

Mega Fattie 03-13-2011 09:07 PM

When, or where can i buy 2 of these covers?

team3six 03-13-2011 09:11 PM

I am now sure its yotachump that makes them outputs.

As far as the covers go. My hobby shop has been searching for them and still have not found them.

Now that kinda pisses me off that Axial releases it, but they cant be found anywhere. Dont get me wrong! I love Axial, But come on guys. Its a gear cover, not a whole truck thats sold out

dezfan 03-13-2011 09:15 PM

Eddie from Crawler Innovations sells them, but they are for using Maxx yokes I think?

Mega Fattie 03-13-2011 09:20 PM

Yeah, that does suck. Guess ill pass on them.

Yeah, chump sells them."thumbsup"

sococrawler 03-14-2011 09:55 AM

these cover's are not out yet, 2 of us won them at the recon/axial g6 madness in reno, axial's rodney wills was on location to do a documentary on the g6 and brought some swag with him!
these will be out very soon !

i totally forgot chump had the output's, it won't work with my tranny as i have the whole hardened gears (solid output) but maybe on my other tranny!

MadForce 03-14-2011 10:38 AM

Actually chump has stopped making those outouts for some time now. Eddie (novas' ark) is making another version now that is is intended for use with maxx shafts.

khwilliams 03-14-2011 10:42 AM

as far as I know he is not making those anymore, look at the thread, there has not been many replies from Chump in quite some time. I do know however that Eddie from CI will make them but he needs several people to pre-order them first to make them worth his wild!"thumbsup"

i thought chump was gonna start these again, but i guess if i came over to HTC some time i might be able to keep up with the rock talk!

Note: These are in production and available on the new web site under crawler parts. Someone has already modified these for use with MIP shafts. It's an easy mod. All you have to do is file, sand or machine the width of the flat from 6mm to 5mm. The new 5mm - 6mm adapters for the axle side for a bolt on Maxx shaft conversion should be finished this week or next.

Crawler Innovations is proud to finally offer our 4340 steel - Axial transmission outputs for Traxxas Maxx driveshafts. This is a permanent fix to weak outputs, weak drive shafts, and heavy metal drive shafts.

These outputs are cut from 4340 "Chrome Moly" steel. They are CNC machined to fit the Traxxas T / E Maxx drive shafts. The parts numbers are:

Traxxas Heavy Duty input yokes
#4928X

Traxxas Heavy Duty drive shafts
#4951X

These are the axle drive shafts from Traxxas, not the smaller drive shafts for the transmission.

The reason the front shaft is longer is to allow for clearance of larger spur gears in order to gear lower for increased torque. For brushless motors this is critical to ensure a smooth start up and no cogging.

They are sold in a set. A set is one long front and one short rear.

These are Made in the U.S.A.

Vendor thread information is here:

Here is a set installed on my SCX-10 based 1.9 scale Toyota. I am using a 96 tooth spur gear and 15 tooth pinion on a Tekin 13.5 sensored brushless inrunner motor using a Mamba Max Pro on 4S. The truck is as smooth on start up as my brushed 2.2 comp trucks using Holmes Hobbies hand wound motors.

Yes, it's a giant 96T spur gear but the smooth crawlability even with a brushless motor is amazing.

Here you can see just how much clearance you have between the output shaft, spur gear and drive shaft yoke. You could actually go bigger if you can find a company that makes a bigger 48pitch spur gear.

This pictures shows that the drive shafts clear all link mounting and links.

As always, thank you so much to everyone for your support of me and Crawler Innovations products. Without good customers like you, none of this would be possible. Thank you,
Eddie

why why not just dremel that small section off, as far as i know, post people are gonna be getting this to protect their wires from hitting the spur, not for protection from dirt

I think 2 zipties weigh less, are cheaper and have the advantage of being already available.

TURTLE 03-21-2011 11:37 PM

Why not heat the case in that spot a little and push it in to clearance the cover
?
